Manisha Koirala Shares Thoughts On Not Becoming A Mother Or Choosing Adoption, 'Jo Gaya So Gaya...'

Manisha Koirala’s most recent role as ‘Mallikajaan’ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has stunned everyone. The actress not only effortlessly played the role of a ruthless power of authority in Heeramandi but also showcased a greyer side when it came to being a mother. Recently, Manisha was asked in an interview about the influence of her motherly side or her remembrance of her mother when she portrays the role of a mother in her projects.

Manisha Koirala says she has made peace with not being a mother

While answering the question during an interview with NDTV, the 53-year-old actress shared that marriage and starting a family matter a lot, and motherhood has always pulled her, but she has known her reality. Manisha added that she has now accepted her reality and made peace with the fact that she won’t be able to be a mother. In her words:

“There are, somewhere, unfinished things in my life. As you grow older, you accept your reality. There are so many dreams that you realise are not going to happen, and you make peace with that. Motherhood is one of them. It was tough getting ovarian cancer and not being able to be a mother. But I made peace with that. And I said jo gaya so gaya, and let me do my best with what I have.”

Manisha Koirala reveals everyone left her when she was diagnosed with cancer

During the conversation, Manisha also talked about how her cancer changed her relationship with her people, especially with her family and friends. She recalled the time when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and how she realised that no one, except her immediate family, was by her side. Sharing how people try to escape pain, Manisha added:

“I really believed that I had multiple friends. I thought partying together, travelling together, having fun together, people will sit with me in my pain. That was not so. People are not capable of sitting with anybody’s pain, let alone their own pain. We always try to find excuses to not feel pain. We want to escape pain. That’s human nature. I found myself very lonely, and I realised that only my immediate family was around me.  I have a big family, and everybody is affluent, they can all afford it. But it was my parents, it was my brother, it was my brother’s wife. And that is it. And I realised that when everybody leaves me, these are the people who will be with me.”

“I thought a lot about adoption. I realised I get stressed out very quickly, I get anxiety very quickly. So after a lot of debate, I made peace with that. That I'd rather be a godmother. So, I must make do with what I have. What I have is ageing parents, whom I love. I'm the apple of their eye, I'm the centre of their universe, and I'm going to cherish that. In fact, I fly back to Kathmandu more often now and spend time with them. And I love that.”
