Marriage is said to be about love and protection. However, there have been some horrifying cases in recent times that have left the country in shock. Unfortunately, there has been another incident to add. A man residing in Bengaluru brutally murdered his wife over an escalated argument.

Bengaluru police recently arrested a man for the alleged murder of his own wife. The man, Rakesh, who hails from Maharashtra, is being accused of killing his wife and stuffing her body in a suitcase before fleeing to Pune. He was tracked down by the police using call detail records and is now in Satara police's custody.

According to a report by India Today, the crime came to light after Rakesh called his wife's parents and confessed to having murdered their daughter. The victim, who is being identified as 32-years-old, Gauri Anil Sambekar, had a degree in mass media and communication. However, she was currently unemployed and was staying at home. On the other hand, Rakesh worked with Hitachi as a project manager. The couple originally hailed from Maharashtra and were living in Doddakannahalli under Hulimavu police station limits for the past two months.

Rakesh tried to poison himself

After fleeing the scene, Rakesh was driving to Pune. The police reported that he was found unconscious inside a car by the locals in Satara's Pargaon Khandala. He had allegedly consumed a poison-like substance and was immediately admitted to the hospital. The accused is currently undergoing treatment for the alleged poisoning.

According to police sources, Rakesh and Gauri had frequent arguments. There are also reports that the victim had physically assaulted him during fights. However, when their heated exchange escalated on March 26, 2025, Rakesh stabbed Gauri in the stomach and slit her throat. The police further revealed that the accused had stuffed Gauri's body into a suitcase after committing the murder. It was further shared that he left the bag in the bathroom before escaping to Pune.

The police share the details of the murder

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sarah Fathima shared that police had initially received a call at around 5:30 pm reporting a suspected hanging case. However, when they reached the location, they found out it was an offence. DCP further revealed that the body was intact. However, the further nature of the injuries will be confirmed after the autopsy. She stated:

"When our Hulimavu police inspector reached the house, it was locked. After gaining entry, they found a suitcase in the bathroom. That's when we realised it was an offence. The FSL team opened the suitcase and discovered a woman's body with injury marks all over. The body was not cut into pieces; it was intact. The exact nature of injuries will be confirmed after the postmortem report."

Authorities had attempted to trace Rakesh, but he was missing. They further tracked his location and alerted Pune police, who made the arrest. A team from Hulimavu police has reportedly travelled to Pune to bring the accused back to Bengaluru for further investigation. The case remains under investigation as police work to uncover further details and establish the full motive behind the crime.
