Mamta Kulkarni To Be Ordained As 'Mahamandaleshwar' And Get A New Name; Future In Acting?

Mamta Kulkarni was a renowned model and B-Town actress who once shared the screen with megastars in popular films like Baazi, Andolan, and Sabse Bada Khiladi. Her dazzling image was destroyed after she got embroiled in a Rs. 2000 crore drug traffic controversy with drug lord, Vicky Goswami, which led her to leave the country. And it was only after 25 years of exile that Mamta finally returned to India. Now, the former actress is set to be ordained as a 'Mahamandaleshwar' in the Kinnar Akhara, with her coronation ceremony taking place on January 24, 2025. 

Mamta Kulkarni to be ordained as 'Mahamandaleshwar' and renamed 'Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri'

Former actress, Mamta Kulkarni will be embarking down a spiritual path on January 24, 2025, as she is ordained as 'Mahamandaleshwar' in the Kinnar Akhara. As per an ABP report, the actress' coronation will take place in the Kinnar Akhara. At the Sangam on the 24th of January, Mamta will be performing the 'Pind Daan' ritual. Henceforth, the actress will adopt a new name, 'Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri.'

Mamta recently met the Kinnar Akhara's Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara, Dr Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, and the Juna Akhara's Mahamandaleshwar, Swami Jai Ambanand Giri. Glimpses of Mamta at these meetings recently broke the internet. In them, she was seen donning saffron clothes. Mamta also wore a rudraksh mala around her neck. In a conversation with ANI, Laxmi Narayan opened up about Mamta Kulkarni being ordained as a Mahamandleshwar and said:

"Kinnar akhada is going to make Mamta Kulkarni (former Bollywood actress) a Mahamandleshwar. She has been named as Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri. As I am talking here, all the rituals are underway. She has been in touch with Kinnar Akhada and me for the last one and a half years... She is allowed to perform the character of any devotional figure if she wants as we do not prohibit anyone from performing their art."

Who is a Mahamandaleshwar?

For the uninitiated, Mahamndaleshwar is a special title reserved for Hindu monks of the Dashanami order. The term itself directly translates to 'chief of great or numerous monasteries.' Mahamandaleshwars are leaders responsible for spreading the Sanata Dharma's teachings far and wide, living righteous lives, and contributing to society's betterment.

Before she left India, Mamta captivated audiences with her bold on-screen persona and jaw-dropping good looks. In the 1990s, the actress quickly gained fame. Her stint in Bollywood may not have been long, but it was jam-packed with memorable films like Karan Arjun, China Gate, Tirangaa, Aashiq Awara, Krantiveer, Baazi, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Policewala Gunda, and more. Given that Mamta will be treading down this path of spirituality, she will likely be unable to make an acting comeback.  

When Mamta Kulkarni returned to India after 25 long years

Not too long after her career took off, Mamta Kulkarni was rumoured to be romantically involved with drug lord Vicky Goswami. It was then alleged that the actress was involved in a Rs. 2,000 crore international drug racket. Mamta ended up leaving India after the scandal and returned 25 years later, only after she was given a clean chit. 

The actress then took to her Instagram with an emotional video about how happy she was to be in 'Aamchi Mumbai.' In her words:

"Hey guys, this is Mamta Kulkarni. I just returned to India, Bombay, 'Aamchi Mumbai' after 25 years. I'm really nostalgic that I went out of India in 2000, and exactly in 2024, I'm here. I'm really overwhelmed and emotional; I don't know how to express it. Before the flight landed, I was looking at my left-right. I saw my country from the top for almost 25 years. I became emotional; I had tears in my eyes. I put my foot down out of the Mumbai International Airport, and I became extremely overwhelmed."
