Mamta Kulkarni is now a former Bollywood actress. It was on January 24, 2025, when she revealed to the world that she was walking on a spiritual journey. She has sacrificed her materialistic life and is now known as 'Mai Mamta Nand Giri'. After taking sanyaas, which took place at the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025, she is also the Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada. Mamta had done many Bollywood movies in the 90's. She was asked if she would return to movies after becoming a tapasvi.

Mamta Kulkarni opens up on returning back to Bollywood

Mamta has been touting controversies since the 90's. Even when she had returned back to India earlier, paps often asked her if she would make a comeback in Hindi films or if she was interested in being a part of Bigg Boss. Mamta opined on the same post becoming Mahamandaleshwar. During an interview with India Today she quipped:

 "I can't even imagine doing films again. It is absolutely impossible for me now."

Mamta Kulkarni sheds tears while embracing sanyaas life

A clip of the former actress went viral, and she could be seen crying a river as she underwent a spiritual transformation. The clip reportedly was shot at the Maha Kumbh Mela at Allahabad as she took the path of renunciation. As seen in the viral video, Mamta had worn a Rudraksha rosary over her saffron-hued attire. Reportedly, Mamta returned to India after 25 years for the Maha Kumbh and her fellow sanyasis were also seen in the ritual.

Mamta Kulkarni on becoming a Mahamandaleshwar

Mamta, going ahead in the interview, revealed her thoughts after becoming revered Mahamandaleshwar. She said that the people of Kinnar Akhada represent the Ardhnareshwar avatar of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. In her words:

"Becoming a Mahamandaleshwar of such Akhada is like an Olympic medal after 23 years of my spiritual practice. It's only with the blessings of the Goddess Adishakti that I have been bestowed with this honour. I chose to be a part of the Kinnar Akhada because it represents freedom. There are no restrictions here."

Hemangi Sakhi Maa objects Mamta's Mahamandaleshwar's ritual

Hemangi Sakhi Maa of Kinnar Mahamandaleshwar is not happy and has objected Mamta's Mahamandaleshwar ceremony. During an interview with ANI, she said that the Kinnar Akhada was formed for the Kinnar community. In her words:

"But now, a woman has been inducted into the Kinnar Akhada. If it is Kinnar Akhada and you have started giving positions to women, then rename the Akhada."

She even raised questions about Mamta's alleged affairs with the underworld gang. Sakhi Maa noted that Mamta Kulkarni's background should have been looked into. She returned to India suddenly, her videos went viral. She arrived at Kumbh suddenly, her videos went viral. And then she is anointed as Mahamandaleshwar. Sakhi Maa wanted to know the facts behind the same and strongly condemned Mamta's spiritual transformation.

Mamta Kulkarni's life as a sanyas

Reportedly, Mamta had met Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Dr Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi at the Kinnar Akhara of the Maha Kumbh Mela. The acharya blessed her as she embraced the path of being a sadhvi.
