Kalamkaval OTT Release Date Is Out, Here's When And Where To Watch Mammootty's Crime Thriller

Mammootty always proves that there is nothing that he cannot do. After years of mesmerising the audience with his lead roles, here is the man, out to experiment again. His latest release, Kalamkaval, gave a glimpse of the much-talented actor experimenting with his role as he played an antagonist who enjoyed brutally killing his victim.

The film begins with the case of a missing woman in rural Thiruvananthapuram. As the investigation begins, a similar pattern of missing women emerges. All the missing women, divorced, widowed, or unmarried, were last seen with the same unidentified man. The case is investigated by none other than Sub-Inspector ‘Jayakrishnan’, played by Vinayakan.

And the man behind all the missing women is none other than ‘Stanley Das’, played by Mammootty, who portrays a womaniser in the film. He introduces himself with different names and charms his victim with his personality. The crime drama directed by debutant Jithin K. Jose, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jishnu Sreekumar, also stars Vinayakan, Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajisha Vijayan, and Shruti Ramachandran in key roles. The film offers different twists and an interesting climax.

When and where to stream Kalamkaval?

Kalamkaval was released in theatres on December 5, 2025, and will now stream on OTT. Kalamkaval is scheduled to begin streaming on the OTT platform SonyLIV. While the official streaming date has not yet been announced, the streaming platform has confirmed the film will be available in January 2026. Sharing the announcement, the streaming platform revealed:

“The legend returns, darker and deadlier. Mammootty in a performance that will leave you breathless. Biggest blockbuster of the season, #Kalamkaval streaming this January only on Sony LIV!”

Is Kalamkaval based on true events?

Since the film's release, there has been significant discussion about its inspiration by true events. As per many reports, the film was inspired by 'Cyanide Mohan', a ruthless serial killer who targeted women as his prey. He lured his victims and trapped them for marriage by making them believe in a happily ever after.

He would take his victims to distant places, spend the night with them, and give them cyanide pills disguised as contraceptives. After the victim dies, he would take away their jewellery and flee. After Mohan was arrested in 2009, he confessed to killing 20 women. He is currently serving a life imprisonment at Hindalga Central Prison, Belagavi.
