Mamata Banerjee Mentions 'Rakesh Roshan' While Talking On Chandrayaan-3, Netizens React Hilariously

Chandrayaan-3, under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)'s Chandrayaan programme, made a historic moment on August 24, 2023, by landing on the moon's south pole. Soon after this, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and a key opposition leader, Mamata Banerjee addressed masses like several other political personalities. However, during her speech, she made a hilarious remark by citing an example from 1984's another space research programme, and it started a meme fest on social media.

Mamata Banerjee gets confused between filmmaker, Rakesh Roshan and astronaut, Rakesh Sharma after Chandrayaan-3 landing

In several videos surfacing on the internet from the same speech ceremony, Mamata Banerjee can be heard praising the ISRO scientists behind the huge success of the Chandrayaan-3 landing. However, soon after this, she cited an example and mentioned a conversation between Indira Gandhi and astronaut, Rakesh Sharma. But with a slip of the tongue, it turned into filmmaker, Rakesh Roshan. She said:

Not only on X, but the video is also going viral on Instagram. While some people are hilariously trolling Mamata Banerjee for the same, some netizens mentioned that it is just a slip of the tongue. Check out the comments:

In reality, dating back to 1984, Wing Commander, Rakesh Sharma, who was a former Indian Air Force pilot, flew aboard Soyuz T-11 on April 3, 1984, as part of the Soviet Interkosmos programme. He was the first Indian in space, although there have been other astronauts of Indian origin who travelled to space. However, they were not Indian citizens. At that time, the then-PM, Indira Gandhi had asked him how India looked from space and he had replied, "Sare jahan se achcha."
