Well, Mallika had based her opinions on hard facts, and she appeared to be extremely annoyed when the journalist misinterpreted her views and tried to criticise her. In response, Mallika tore upon the journalist and openly claimed:

“I think you need to do your homework well. I said Indian society is regressive for women, see the interview again Today I read in the newspaper, according to UNFPA, 40 per cent of Indian women are married below the age of 18, I think it is a very, very regressive state for women. And I stand by it. I never said I am not happy with India.”

In a previous interview with ETimes, Mallika Sherawat had opened up about her journey into the film world and highlighted how she had to leave everything behind before entering into it. She admitted hailing from a conservative, Jat family in Haryana, and added that she had to break all her ties, including those with her parents, before stepping into the glamour world. In that same interview, Mallika also spoke about the other massive transformation in her life, when she decided to quit Mumbai and jetted off to Los Angeles for her Hollywood career. She revealed that this time too, she lost a fair share of relationships and friends. In her words:

“When I moved to LA, I lost a few precious friendships that I had in India, because when you are so out of touch, you kind of tend to lose them. So yeah, I have experienced a loss like that."
