Mahesh Babu's 'Lord Rama's Look From 'Varanasi' Went Viral? Here's The Fact Check Behind The Same

Mahesh Babu is all set to be seen in SS Rajamouli's next big project, Varanasi. The movie is one of the most expensive projects, as per SS Rajamouli. One part of the movie is set in the Treta Yuga, wherein Mahesh Babu will be seen as Lord Rama. Earlier, a grand event was hosted in Hyderabad, wherein SS Rajamouli released the title and the trailer of the movie, Varanasi, which is all set to be released in 2027.

Did Mahesh Babu's photo as 'Lord Rama' from the movie Varanasi go viral?

Reportedly, the movie will be one of the massive projects, and the 3-minute concept video already left everyone excited about what is all set to be unveiled. Amid this, a photo recently went viral, which showed Mahesh Babu in the look of 'Lord Rama'. Mahesh Babu, in an orange costume, was seen standing with a bow and arrow, holding a rudraksha mala.

The photo was shared through Always Bollywood, which claimed that the photo surfaced from Mythri Cinemas’ digital theatre hoarding in Guntur. However, as it seems, Mahesh Babu's look as 'Lord Rama' was not the authentic one. Given that it's such a massive project, SS Rajamouli wouldn't seemignly leak such a massive role's look this soon. Earlier, the leaked versions of the concept video already left him irritated. However, as per X's AI-platform, Gork, this photo was not an authentic one or the official one. Team Varanasi is yet to make any comment on this.

More about Varanasi

For the unversed, Varanasi will be released in the theatres in 2027, and it will be the second IMAX movie after Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana to be released. If the reports are to be believed, the movie has a budget of Rs. 1100 crore.

Questions were raised about whether the movie was influenced by the Hindu epic, Ramayana. SS Rajamouli, during the Hyderabad event, revealed that a sequence of the movie was actually influenced by the Hindu epic, and it took 60 days to complete the shooting of that particular scene. To mention, reports were rife that SS Rajamouli would probably have to change the name of the movie. It so happened that reports claimed that the movie might change its name again, which was previously selected as SSMB29, and later it was named Varanasi.

With this, reports claimed that the production company, Rama Bramha Hanuma Creations, registered the title Vaaranasi with the Telugu Film Producers' Council back in 2023, and it was renewed from June 2025 to July 2026. Despite that, S.S. Rajamouli and his team took the title 'Varanasi', although it was spelt differently during the grand launch event of the movie, held on November 15, 2025, at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.

It was not clarified whether the production company took any legal action or not. Well, no announcement from the team was made about the change in the title of the movie. The concept video of the movie was time-travel-themed, and it left the audience stuck to the screens, wondering what the plot of the movie could be, as it showed things from different portions of the world, be it a Ramayana-inspired sequence, Africa or Antarctica and whatnot! The movie will also feature Priyanka Chopra in the lead role.
