Biopics are the newest trend of films being made in Bollywood. Better than written biographies, biopics provide a very detailed and minute representation of the personality’s life. Evidently so, makers of such biopics do very detailed research about the particular celebrity on whom the biopic is made. Speaking about the biopics made to date in Bollywood, a lot of celebrities from various fields of sports and social activism among others, have been roped in to make such biopics. However, for making such biopics, these celebrities charge a significant amount of fee so as to permit the filmmakers to weave a story on their life. And now, let us reveal to you the whopping fees charged by these celebrities.
Captain cool, a.k.a Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most legendary cricketers in India. It was in 2016 when his biopic, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story was unfurled. It was directed by ace filmmaker, Neeraj Panday. The film was helmed by late actor, Sushant Singh Rajput as the cricketer himself. Reportedly, the cricketer had charged a whopping amount of Rs. 45 crores from the creator of the biopic.

Laxmi Aggarwal is an Indian acid attack survivor, a social activist and a TV host. While her inspirational life story would have remained untold to everyone until 2020, when her biopic titled Chhapak got made by the filmmaker, Meghna Gulzar. Laxmi’s role was portrayed by Deepika Padukone. Incidentally, Laxmi charged Rs. 13 lakhs for providing the motion picture rights for the film.
Paan Singh Tomar was an Indian soldier and renowned athlete. He served in the Indian Army as well as represented India at the 1958 Asian Games. He later gained fame as a rebel in the Chambal valley, after resorting to violence over a land feud case. Years later, in 2012, a biopic was made on him that was helmed by the late actor, Irrfan Khan. Reportedly, Paan Singh Tomar’s then-living nephew took Rs. 15 lakhs as royalty for the biopic to be made.

Milkha Singh, a.k.a ‘The Flying Sikh’ was a renowned sprinter and athlete in India. He won several accolades and achievements. While many knew him closely, it was in 2013 when his biopic titled, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was made, to make everyone aware of the athlete’s story. While Farhan Khan was roped in to play the pivotal role, the athlete took as minimum as Re. 1 for giving ownership of the film.

Sanjay Dutt is one of the most talented actors in Bollywood. He made his debut with film, Rocky in 1981. Apart from his acting career, he got briefly embroiled in a critical matter after he got arrested under the TADA act in 1993, post the Mumbai blasts the same year. In 2018, Ranbir Kapoor played the role of the actor in his biopic, Sanju. For the rights of the film, Sanjay Dutt charged a whopping amount of fees between Rs. 9 to 10 crores for the same.
‘Masterblaster’, Sachin Tendulkar is one of the most eminent cricketer in India. While his game in the field is not unknown to all, it was through his biopic titled, Sachin-A Billion Dreams in 2017, that the audience got to know the legend a little bit more. For the same, the cricketer took a massive amount of Rs. 40 crores from the producers of the film.
Mohammad Azharuddin is one of the renowned cricketers in India. The right-handed batter played a total of 99 matches test matches in his entire career. However, in 2000, his cricketing career came to a halt after he got banned by the BCCI for life due to his alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal. In 2016, Emran Hashmi became the protagonist of Azharuddin’s biopic titled Azhar. However, he didn’t charge a penny for the same.
Ace boxer, Mary Kom’s biopic was made in 2014, that was helmed by Priyanka Chopra. The diva put in a lot of effort in order to put herself in the athlete’s shoes. Reportedly, the boxer charged Rs. 25 lakhs for lending the rights of the film.
