Madison Beer, the American singer and songwriter, is widely known for her highly publicised relationship with NFL quarterback, Justin Herbert. She rose to fame when her rendition of Etta James’s At Last was shared by pop icon, Justin Bieber on social media.
However, behind her glamorous music career, Madison’s personal life was filled with multiple struggles. When Madison was 7 years old, her mom and dad got divorced, and later, when the American singer turned 16, a dark incident made her life upside down. The incident took such a toll that she went to the verge of ending her life.

In her memoir, The Half of It, Madison Beer opened up about a traumatic night, when her n**es got leaked. Madison was just 16 years old and had to deal with the whole thing all by herself. She highlighted that it marked the beginning of the darkest chapter of her life, which continued into her twenties. The incident took such a toll on her that she tried to end her life. An excerpt from the memoir can be read as:
"It was the beginning of some of the darkest years of my life, starting at age sixteen and following me into my twenties. There were many times—just like the night my n**es were leaked—that I felt so backed into a corner I thought the only way out was to end my life."

In her memoir, Madison recalled how her brother saved her from ending her life. The American singer shared that one day, when she was feeling too low, she climbed over the edge of her balcony in Los Angeles. Although she wasn’t planning to jump, she just wanted to feel that she had an 'escape' if life became too hard for her. But it was her little brother, who spotted her and screamed to raise an alarm. Then her parents came to her rescue. An excerpt from the memoir, The Half of It, can be read as:
"Once, on a particularly heavy day, I climbed over the edge of my balcony in LA, a million thoughts running through my head as I stared down at the ground. My little brother found me and screamed for my parents, and as I climbed back over, listening to them all freak out, I was only confused why they were making such a big deal out of it. The thought of killing myself was so normal to me at that point that I had forgotten it wasn't something everyone pondered on a daily basis."

In a 2023 interview with People, Madison shared that she really wanted to write the memoir to help others navigate their true feelings. Madison expressed that she wanted to share the journey so that someone on the other side of the screen thinks before trolling. Later, she also wished that a person must support a person in need. She was quoted as saying:

"I really wanted to write this book now because I thought sharing some of the ups and downs in my life might be able to help other people navigate and relate. I hope, by sharing my honest journey, that someone who wants to hide behind a keyboard to be mean at someone else's expense thinks twice before they hit 'send.' I hope that we can find the strength to support each other."
