After witnessing the glimpses of the teasers of Mrs. Deshpande, it is clearly visible that Madhuri Dixit will play a house wife, who has some dark secrets linked to her life. Through a teaser released on November 21, 2025, the makers gave a hint that Madhuri is serial killer. Speaking about her character, Madhuri said in a statement that this is the first time she is playing such a role. She also called her character the 'most complex' one. She was quoted as saying:

"Mrs. Deshpande is unlike anything I’ve stepped into before. It’s raw, unfiltered ,and strips away the glamour, audiences usually associate with me. She is the most complex character I’ve ever played - you constantly feel like you know her, till you don’t. Playing a character with so many shades of grey has been both exciting and nerve-wracking! I’m eager for the audiences to see this thrilling, new side of me."

Madhuri Dixit will play the titular role in the thriller series, Mrs. Deshpande. The series is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Kukunoor Movies. Alongside Madhuri Dixit, the psychological thriller also features Siddharth Chandekar and Priyanshu Chatterjee in prominent roles. According to latest reports, Mrs. Deshpande will premiered on December 19, 2025 on JioHotstar.

The story of Mrs. Deshpande is reportedly around an ordinary homemaker living a double life as a serial killer. From the teasers, it is clear that Madhuri is the ordinary woman who is both a housewife and a serial killer. According to multiple reports, Mrs. Deshpande is based on French thriller, La Mante. The story of La Mante revolves around a serial killer who is asked for help to catch a copycat murderer. But the serial killer had only condition that she will help only if she gets the opportunity to work with her estranged son. This condition forced the mother-son duo to get into an emotional and stressful partnership.

Madhuri Dixit was the only choice for the titular role of Mrs. Deshpande

Speaking about the thriller series, Mrs. Deshpande, the director Nagesh Kukunoor shared that when he was working on the script, he thought that only Madhuri Dixit can portray the titular role. He highlighted that there are multiple shades in Madhuri’s character. He added that the audience will be left in awe after watching the actress’ performance. He was quoting:

"As I worked on the script, I saw only Madhuri in the title role and to have her play this complex character was an absolute joy. The deglamorized look is just the beginning as her character constantly keeps the audience second guessing the secrets that she hides behind the million watt smile. This character is a significant departure from anything the audience has ever seen her do and I guarantee that they will be blown away by her nuanced performance."
