'Maalik' Trailer Review, Rajkummar Rao's Brand New Avatar, Netizens Laud His Pairing With Prosenjit

Rajkummar Rao is one of the most versatile actors in the Hindi film industry. From his loverboy image in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana to a brand-new rugged avatar in his upcoming film, Maalik, Rajkummar has been winning hearts with his stellar acting skills. For the action-packed gangster thriller, Rajkummar has stepped into the shoes of a gangster who dreams of becoming a politician. On the other hand, Bengali star, Prosenjit Chatterjee, has taken up the role of a tough cop and is on the verge of knocking down 'Maalik' a.k.a Rajkummar. Ever since the movie's trailer came to light, netizens have lauded the on-screen pairing of Rajkummar and Prosenjit.

Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik trailer showcases action and violence to gain power

For the unversed, Maalik, directed by Pulkit, starring Rajkummar Rao, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Manushi Chillar, Saurabh Shukla and more, is set to hit the big screens on July 11, 2025. A while ago, the trailer of Maalik was launched on YouTube. The 2-minute 45-second video featured a cold-blooded gangster, 'Maalik' (played by Rajkummar) and starts with a powerful and intense dialogue with him, where he says to his father, "Hum majboor baap ka beta hai, kismat thi humari. Par aapko majboot beta ka baap banna padega, yeh kismat hai aapki."

The trailer also featured Bengali superstar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, popularly known as Bumba in the Bengali film industry. In the film, he will portray a tough cop. In the trailer, the Khakee: The Bengal Chapter actor makes a grand entry after a fierce dialogue of Rajkummar, "Hume marne wala abhi tak paida nahi hua hai." Soon after Rajkummar, Prosenjit is seen saying to Rajkummar’s on-screen wife, 'Vidya', played by Manushi Chillar, "Humko raatoh raat Allahabad kahe bheja gaya pata hai? Tumhare pati ko marne ke liye."

Rajkummar Rao appears in a never-before-seen avatar in Maalik

Rajkummar, who will be seen as the protagonist, appears in a never-before-seen avatar in Maalik, giving off vibes of Shah Rukh Khan’s character in Raees. In the trailer, Rajkummar’s on-screen dad says to him, "Ek majboor baap ka beta ho tum. Jo nahi ho, woh banna ka koshish maat karo," which clearly states that in the film, the actor will be going through a havoc transition from an ordinary boy to a cool-blooded criminal gang leader whose only wish is to become a politician and rule the world. The film’s backdrop location is set in 1980s Allahabad, where many are conspiring against 'Maalik'. Saurabh Shukla as Minister Shankar Singh is also featured in the trailer and is seen conspiring against Rajkummar.

The trailer showcases Rajkummar's versatility as he transitions from an emotionless gangster to a person full of emotion. In fact, in the last few seconds of the trailer, Rajkummar’s intense look while pulling a rope to hang four men will just blow your mind. However, the action-packed thriller will surely send chills down the spine.

Soon after the trailer of Maalik was released, netizens rushed to the comment section and lauded both Rajkummar Rao and Prosenjit Chatterjee. In fact, many users have become obsessed after seeing the on-screen chemistry between the two legendary actors. Praising Rajkumar, one user wrote, "Rajkumar Didn't Just Acted, He Lived The Character."
