The pilots of the plane were seen waving at the children, which quickly turned into their last wave as the light aircraft he was flying crashed into the ground with a fiery explosion.

John Johnson, an eyewitness who was at the airport with his wife and children, recalled the nerve-chilling final moments of the pilot before the crash. He revealed that they were waving at the pilots of the plane, and they all waved back to them. But within a few seconds after takeoff, it banked hard to the left and went straight down. He said:

"We all waved at the pilots, and they all waved back at us. Then the aircraft powered up, rolled down the runway, and took off. But just a few seconds later, it banked hard to the left, inverted, and went straight down. It crashed headfirst. There was a huge fireball."

Soon after the crash, London Southend Airport confirmed that a general aviation aircraft had crashed. They suspended all flights and operations as police and air accident investigators searched the scene. Southend Airport shared a statement on their social media handle, X, which can be read as:

Within seconds, The East of England Ambulance Service sent their four ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, four hazardous area response teams, three senior paramedics, and an air ambulance to the scene. According to reports, there are no survivors, but the details of the people involved in the accident is not yet made public.
