It all started back in 2019 when both Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell were working on the set of Gilded Rage. What began as a professional bond between co-stars soon blossomed into something deeper. The Emily In Paris actress later admitted that it was love at first sight; after meeting Charlie, she knew right away that he was ‘the one’. Talking about their romantic beginnings, Lily shared on Live with Kelly and Ryan:

“It was kinda one of the situations where I knew the second I met him that I wanted to be his wife one day, so it was just a matter of when really.”

The two were so smitten with each other that within only a month after sparking their dating buzz, Lily and Charlie made their relationship Instagram official, that too, in the City of Love, Paris, where the actress was filming Emily in Paris. However, it was later in January 2020 that the couple made their first public appearance at a Lakers game in Los Angeles.

Within a couple of months of officially dating, Lily and Charlie adopted a rescue dog, Redford. Their fur baby soon became a cherished member of their little family and even has his own Instagram page! How adorable is that!

When Charlie McDowell finally popped the big question

Lily and Charlie had been head-over-heels in love with each other from the day their paths crossed. It was just a matter of waiting to find the opportunity and pose the big question. On September 25, 2020, Charlie got down on one knee in a breathtaking New Mexico landscape, proposing to Lily with a rose-cut diamond ring. For Lily, it was the easiest ‘yes’ she could have said to anyone. Taking to her IG handle, Lily posted a series of photos from their engagement, announcing the news to the world. Her caption read:

"I've been waiting my lifetime for you and I can't wait to spend our lifetime together..."

Charlie, equally excited to count the days leading up to their marriage, posted a snap of his then-fiance, Lily flaunting her ring with a heartfelt note that read:

"In a time of uncertainty and darkness, you have illuminated my life. I will forever cherish my adventure with you."

One year after their engagement, Lily and Charlie finally tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony, amid the stunning landscape of Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado. The ethereal wedding looked like something out of a storybook, with Lily donning a stunning lace Ralph Lauren gown. They said “I do” to each other on September 4, 2021. Lily described the day as “the perfect start to forever”.

Soon after their fairytale marriage, Lily and Charlie embarked on their adventurous honeymoon in the mountains of Scandinavia. The couple shared glimpses from their first trip as newlyweds amid the breathtaking views of the country, which was nothing short of magical.

After spending magical years together as each other’s soulmates,  Lily and Charlie embarked on a new chapter as parents. The couple recently announced the birth of their first child, Tove Jane McDowell, born via surrogacy. On January 31, 2025, Lily shared the joyous news on Instagram, showing baby Tove in a cosy bassinet with her name delicately embroidered on a blanket. Lily shared the news with a note that read:

“Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again…”
