It was on February 16, 2022, when one of the biggest names in the Indian music industry, Bappi Lahiri, had breathed his last, leaving behind a legacy that would be impossible to surpass. Fondly known as 'Bappi Da', he was popular for his fascination for gold. The 'Disco King', who enthralled millions with his voice for several decades, was cremated on February 17, 2022, at Vile Parle crematorium in Mumbai.
Late Bappi Lahiri was renowned for his love for gold jewellery as much as he was popular for his hit songs. Thanks to his massive gold collection, the late legendary singer was also known as the ‘Gold Man of India’. However, gold to Bappi Da was much more than just accessories and fashion statements. In an interview, the veteran singer’s son, Bappa Lahiri shared that Bappi Da was spiritually attached to his gold, and revealed what will happen to his extensive gold collection now.

Now, in an interview with India Today, Bappi Lahiri's son, Bappa revealed that gold for his father was not just a fashion statement but a lucky charm too. He added that Bappi Lahiri had collected his gold pieces from around the world. He said:
“Those gold pieces were not just fashion statements for dad, it was lucky for him. From Vatican City to Hollywood, he collected each of those gold pieces from around the world. He used to find something which he would like to wear and turned it into gold.”
Further in the interview, Bappa also revealed that his father had a spiritual connection with gold. He shared that the family would like to preserve the gold and showcase it to the world. In his words:
“He never travelled without it. Even if it was a 5 am flight, he would wear all the gold. It was like his temple and his power, he was spiritually connected with it. So we are going to preserve it. That was his most favourite thing. We want people to see his things, so we might put them in a museum. He had a collection of shoes, sunglasses, hats, watches, and jewellery which he loved and we would love to showcase it.”

Earlier, a report in Indiatoday.com had stated that the late iconic music composer and singer, Bappi Lahiri's gold and jewellery collection consists of many luxurious items. According to reports, an election affidavit was filed back in 2014, in which it was reportedly mentioned that the singer has a total of 754 grams of gold. Bappi Lahiri's gold collection is currently valued at the gigantic sum of Rs. 38,71,790 lakhs, and it includes chains, bracelets, pendants, rings, gold cufflinks, gold frames, and encrusted diamond pieces. As per the report, it is suggested that Bappa and Rema are going to preserve all his ornaments and jewellery to keep their father's legacy intact.
For the unversed, late Bappi Lahiri had time and again opened up about his 'true love' for gold. He had also added that he had believed 'gold' as his lucky charm, which was the reason why he had always carried a lot of gold jewellery with him. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, late Bappi Lahiri was asked to share his reaction to being hailed as the 'Gold Man of India'. Answering this, the singer had clearly stated that it was an honour for him to be called up with such a unique and great title. Showing his delight, Bappi had said:
"I am proud to be called the Gold Man. Gold is lucky for me. When I started wearing gold, my songs started becoming hits."
Bappi Lahiri and his songs will stay with us forever!
