Big news for Paramount+ as the oil drama, Landman season 2, in its debut week managed to take the place of 'most watched' premiere in the streamer's entire history. Yes! Paramount+ recently released the details, mentioning that the first episode of Landman 2, Death and a Sunset, grabbed more than 9.2 million views within just a week. Episode 2 of season 2, titled Sins of the Father, was dropped on November 23, 2025, and every Sunday, the series will be releasing its remaining 8 new episodes.
With Landman season 2 making almost 10M views in just a week with the first episodes, it's understandable how much viewers are enjoying the same. Season 2 cast includes Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Sam Elliot, and Michelle Randolph, among others. Demi Moore, before the premiere, revealed that the storyline will be 'Juicy', and it will be engaging, and it all seems about right, well, the numbers are speaking. Amid Landman season 2 making waves, let's look back at when one of the central characters, Billy Bob Thornton, shared how one of his last-minute cameos helped him land a role in the oil drama.

Billy Bob Thornton plays the role of 'Tommy Norris' in the series, Landman, and he reprised his role in season 2. The plot of Landman revolves around 'Tommy Norris', and while talking about how he landed the role, Thornton, during a Q&A session at a Landman screening, revealed that it was creator Taylor Sheridan, who once called him, asking him to play in cameo in 1883. Billy agreed, and he was promised that he would be able to meet his friends, Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill, who were regulars on the series, 1883. Billy Bob Thornton said:
"Taylor called me one time and said, ‘I wrote a cameo in this thing I’m doing called 1883 and would you come to Fort Worth for two days to do two scenes? I need a guy who has done this before. Can you come shoot everybody in the saloon and leave?’" Thornton recalled Sheridan saying. "And I’m like, ‘Yes, I can.’"

Well, Billy Bob Thornton played the cameo, and following this, he was invited to the screening, as well as to the success party and dinner, when the creator of Landman surprised him by saying that he wrote a series for him, which was based on a podcast, Boomtown. Sharing how surprised he was, Billy Bob Thornton shared:
"I’m writing a show for you called Landman, and it’s about the oil business in Texas. It’s based on this podcast, Boomtown. He kind of explained it to me, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.'" And then, I read it and thought, ‘That’s even more interesting than I thought it was gonna be.'"

Billy Bob Thornton plays the role of 'Tommy Norris', a hard-working landman in West Texas, who is into the oil business and land deals. The series revolves around his life and how he survived the chaotic oil boom, being entangled in the corrupted and dangerous world filled with money issues and power.

Season 1 showed how an oil boom can lift people up and even can do the opposite, while season 2 will possibly push 'Tommy Norris' over the edge by leading him to do whatever it takes to survive, even if it means doing wrong. While Billy Bob Thornton's salary in Landman hasn't been disclosed, if the reports and the graphs of industry analysts are to be believed, he reportedly has been earning USD 1M per episode in the series Landman, which is now in its second season.
