Aamir Khan's Ex-Wife, Kiran Rao, Opens Up On Her Parent's Reaction To Their Marriage, 'It Was A...'

Aamir Khan may have been separated from his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, but the duo has always remained the best of friends. The former couple has never bad-mouthed each other in public and continue to stay great buddies. The duo often grabbed the headlines for their relationship, and they started dating when Kiran was an assistant director with Swades and not Lagaan. Now, Kiran, in a recent interview, shared the reaction of her parents when they found out that she was getting married to Aamir.

Kiran Rao shares how her parents reacted knowing about her marriage plans with Aamir Khan

During a heartfelt interaction with ANI, Kiran shared about the time when she had made up her mind to marry Aamir Khan. It was in 2005 when Kiran and Aamir married, and they were blessed with Azad Rao Khan in 2011. Speaking about her parents' reaction, Kiran shared that they had experienced the biggest shock of their lives. In her words:

"It was a shocker for them. They were taken aback. In their eyes, I had a lot of promise. I was someone who wanted to do a lot of things, and they were worried that I might be overshadowed by Aamir’s larger-than-life persona. When you marry someone incredibly famous, you do lose a part of your own identity. It took me a long time to find my own voice again.”

Kiran shared that Aamir had never tried to tame down her individuality and always showed her unconditional support. Kiran revealed that Aamir had never expected her to be in a certain way and was always happy that she was herself. She found this to be one of the greatest things about him, as well as the fact that his family was very warm.

Kiran, in an earlier interview with Kareena Kapoor Khan on her chat show, shared that she knows that it was a natural feeling as he is known to be someone who has always done quality work, so attribution was natural. In the words of Kiran:

"The thing is, I kind of feel it’s natural. Because he is known as someone who does such quality work, so you attribute. Personally, I attribute a lot of success in life to having a very supportive and bright partner who intellectually matches me and supports everything I do. He has a hand in my life, but for others to attribute my accomplishments solely to him is a… and I think a lot of women are accustomed to that happening to them.”

Kiran has always showered praises on Aamir for showcasing him with undefined support and also called him a teacher as well as a friend. Their love and respect for one another have always been, and Kiran has always considered Aamir's mom her mother-in-law. Kiran in an interview with the Filmfare, said:

“His mother is still my mother-in-law and his kids (Junaid and Ira) are my friends and very dear to me.”
