Kim Soo-Hyun has 20.2 million followers on Instagram and is one of the world's most-followed South Korean actors.
The 37-year-old South Korean actor, Kim Soo-Hyun made his acting debut back in 2007 in the TV show, Kimchi Cheese Smile. Over the years, the handsome actor has delivered so many memorable films and shows, including Crash Landing On You, Dream High, The Producers, One Ordinary Day, My Love From The Star, Moon Embracing The Sun, It's Okay Not To Be Okay, and Queen of Tears. Fast forward to 2025, and the actor's much-awaited drama with Disney Plus titled Knock Off has been delayed due to the series of controversies that continue to happen in his life.
For the uninitiated, Kim Soo-Hyun has been receiving a lot of backlash for allegedly dating late South Korean actress, Kim Sae-Ron, who passed away on his birthday, February 16, 2025. The actress committed suicide at the age of 24, leaving the entire South Korean entertainment industry to a complete standstill. Although the reason why she committed suicide isn't proven, her family has blamed Kim Soo-Hyun and his agency, Gold Medallist, for pressurising her to repay the debt of Rs. 13.7 million USD in a penalty for not paying the debt she took during her DUI incident.
In his recent press conference, Kim Soo-Hyun has finally accepted that he was in a relationship with late actress, Kim Sae-Ron. The actor said, "Sorry" to everyone who has been affected by Kim Sae-Ron's demise and everything that has been happening since then. Not only this, Kim Soo-Hyun also labelled himself as a "coward". The actor shared that he kept denying the claims because he was fearing loss. However, he based the reports claiming that he is a "paedophile" Kim Soo-Hyun clearly stated that he was in a relationship with Kim Sae-Ron for just one year, and it was four years ago. He said:
"Firstly, I am sorry. Because of me, I think so many people are suffering. And also I feel sorry that the late actor [Kim Sae-ron] isn't able to rest in peace. I consider myself a coward. I couldn't even trust the goodwill that came my way, always fearing loss, harm and running away, denying everything. That's why it took me so long to stand here today. I was together with her for about a year, about 4 years before the drama aired. But at that time, I denied our relationship."
Further, in the same press conference, Kim Soo-Hyun also addressed rumours of him and his agency being the reason behind Kim Sae-Ron's suicide. The actor labelled these reports as "lies" and clearly stated that he never pressured his ex-girlfriend over the debt she took from his agency. He also added that she wasn't a minor when they were dating. At the time of the DUI incident, Kim Sae-Ron was in a relationship with another guy, as per Kim Soo-Hyun. Not only this, he also added that Kim Sae-Ron's family has been accusing him of the things that he has never done. He said:

"I couldn't let it be. I couldn't accept (them) coercing me to take what's fake as the truth. I never dated [Kim Sae-ron] when she was a minor. And it is not true that she had made this tragic choice because of me or my agency pressuring her over a debt. But the family of the late actor, just because I am the ex-boyfriend of the late actor, is asserting that I pushed her to death. They are demanding me to confess to something that I didn't do. [They said] you played with her even from when she was a minor. You threatened her with money. So you are a murderer. I would like you to listen to this audio."
Amidst all the chaos around Kim Sae-ron's suicide case, Kim Soo-Hyun has landed in trouble with late actress, Sulli's brother, Choi Da Hee, who has questioned his role in the explicit scene with his sister in the film, Real. The doting brother claims that his sister, Sulli, was forced to do a topless scene in Real, which eventually caused her to receive a lot of backlash on social media.
Kim Soo-Hyun's agency has responded by saying that "they are currently verifying the situation". On the one hand, Kim Soo-Hyun is silent on the accusations made by Sulli's brother, while the other continues to ask hard questions from the film's director, Lee Ro Be. It will be interesting to see how the second highest-paid South Korean actor, Kim Soo-Hyun, will emerge from this situation.
For the uninitiated, Kim Soo-Hyun was the highest-paid South Korean actor. However, after being indulged in these two controversial cases featuring Kim Sae-Ron and Sulli, he has lost a series of projects and brand endorsements. According to multiple reports, Kim Soo-Hyun charged 312.5 million KRW per episode, whereas Park Hyung-Sik reportedly earned 500 million KRW per episode. Although the exact figures are still under wraps, but most of the reports are speculating that Kim Soo-Hyun is no longer the highest-paid South Korean actor in the world.
