Kim Sharma Was Dumped By Her Kenya-Based Businessman Husband, Ali Punjani, Was Left Penniless

Once the crush of many, Kim Sharma was tagged as Bollywood's next big thing when she made her acting debut in Mohabbatein, paired with Jugal Hansraj. Her cuteness and charming on-screen presence were loved by the audience. Post her debut film, Kim was seen in some other films like Tum Se Achcha Kaun Hai, Yakeen, Fida, and Tom, Dick, and Harry, but none of them made any impact on her career.

However, more than her career, Kim made headlines for her relationships. The actress had dated some leading personalities from film and sports. Kim was in a serious relationship with cricketer, Yuvraj Singh, fashion designer, Arjun Khanna, actor, Harshvardhan Rane and tennis star, Leander Paes.

Amid all her relationship, it was Kim’s marriage to Kenya-based businessman, Ali Punjani, which caught a lot of limelight. Kim met Ali when she was on a Safari trip in Kenya. Just a week after knowing each other, Kim and Ali decided to tie the knot. During that time, Ali was awaiting a divorce from his first wife.

Ali was previously married and had three children from his first marriage. Soon after Ali’s divorce, Kim and Ali got married in a private ceremony in 2010. Once, in an interview with a leading publication, Kim spoke about her hush-hush wedding with Ali and said:

“Marriage for me as well as my husband is a very private affair. After dating each other for a few months, Ali and I wanted to spend our lives together. It was all so sudden, the next thing I knew I was married to the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. It was almost straight out of a fairy tale.”

It was certainly not a fairytale ending, as, after a few years of marriage, Ali reportedly got attracted to another woman. As per multiple reports, when Kim met Ali, he was plump, and when he fell in love with another woman, Ali underwent a complete transformation. There were many conjectures about trouble in Kim and Ali’s paradise, but she refuted the rumours.

Kim Sharma and Ali Punjani got divorced in 2017, and after the divorce, Kim was left without any financial support. After their divorce she was referred to as being insolvent and penniless. She not only left Kenya but also left her job as the CEO of Punjani’s chain of hotels. Taking to her social media handle, Kim took a dig at her financial condition. Describing her ‘broke’ state, Kim tweeted:

“When you spend the weekend raging at #Coldplay and come back to find out you’re penniless.”

After her divorce from Ali Punjani, Kim came back to Mumbai. In 2018, Kim was spotted with actor, Harshvardhan Rane and soon the actor confirmed dating her. However, in 2019, the duo parted ways. She then fell in love with Indian tennis sensation, Leander Paes and the couple dated from 2021 to 2023.

Kim Sharma is currently serving as the executive vice president at DCA, a talent management agency owned by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Cornerstone. She is one of the key figures behind the rise of the internet sensation, Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry.
