Kevin Gates And Dreka Gates Got Married Despite Being Cousins? Claims Resurface Amid Divorce Filing

Kevin Gates and Dreka Gates became the talk of the town after the duo filed for a divorce after a decade of marital bliss. According to the documents obtained by TMZ, Dreka, who also managed her rapper husband, filed for a divorce on July 30, 2025, after citing the date of their separation as July 10, 2025. The reason for their separation was due to 'irreconcilable differences'. Amid that, a report has gone rife that the duo are cousins and got married despite knowing so.

Are Kevin and Dreka Gates cousins?

Kevin Gates and his wife, Dreka, have separated after almost a decade of marriage. Dreka has requested spousal support and has denied the court's permission for Kevin to ask for the same. The rapper's manager has also demanded that she be given joint legal and physical custody of their two minor kids, Islah and Khaza. Kevin and Dreka Gates got married in October 2015. However, since they got married, there has been a rumour that has been looming over their heads. According to reports, Kevin and Dreka are cousins, and they knew about it when they tied the knot. So, let's take a look at how true the rumours are. 

The rumours started around January 2015, when Kevin Gates made a post on Instagram sharing how he found out that the woman he was dating for three months was his cousin. He revealed that it was his grandmother who pointed it out. However, they continued to date. The post was deleted soon after. While Kevin didn't mention who he was talking about, netizens assumed it was Dreka. The speculations resurfaced in 2022 after Kevin replied, saying they were cousins, in response to a comment that he and Dreka looked alike.

It was in July 2022 when Kevin once again gave the rumours some wind on Yung Miami's show, Caresha Please. When asked if he had slept with his cousin, he admitted that he had. However, Kevin did not say that Dreka is his cousin. His wife, being his cousin, is a rumour intensified by his jokes and his confession. In the same show, Yung Miami asked the rapper if the rumours of separation were true, and Kevin denied them instantly. He further addressed the speculations about Dreka cheating on him and stated: 

"That's my best friend, so no matter what, she's gonna be my best friend. I love this woman with everything in me. See, a lot of people like to take it and be like, well, cause of the Super General song... I never accused her of cheating on me in that song. If you listen to the song, I never said she cheated on me one time. That's my best friend."

It is also worth noting that Kevin Gates got married to Brittany Renner according to Islamic rituals on April 6, 2025. However, he was still legally married to Dreka at the time, and since religious marriages are not recognised by US law, he was still legally Dreka's husband. While things fell apart for Dreka and Kevin, Brittany also told the radio station Real 92.3 LA that they got divorced only 52 days after their marriage.
