She shared that whenever there were speculations about Brandon with someone else, their kids just remain adamant about keeping their one emotional dream alive. She also revealed that one of her and Brandon's kids' dreams was that their parents would be together one day. Kelly said:

"My kids just came back from my ex, and any time there’s mention of maybe him being with somebody else…they are just really adamant about keeping that dream alive that we might still be together one day."

The singer shared that whenever she puts her kids to bed, she asks them if they are happy. Kelly stated that no matter how much it hurts, she always wants her kids to be honest, and she is raising that kind of person, who can be honest even when it's uncomfortable. Kelly said:

"It kills me [but] I want them to be honest so I don't ever say, 'Oh God, don't tell me that,' but a lot of times it would be like, 'I'm just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.' They're really honest about it. I'm raising that kind of individual."

Kelly shared how her kids often mention that they wish their parents could be together. Kelly revealed that she sits and tries to make them understand that both she and Brandon love them, and also makes them feel understood, as she is also from a divorced family. She could be quoted as saying:

"I just sit there and I'm like, 'I get it. I'm from a divorced family as well. I get it. That sucks. But we're going to work it out. And you are so loved by both of us.'"

Through a statement to People, a family representative revealed that Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully, being surrounded by his family, on August 7, 2025. It was in the same statement that it was revealed that Brandon had been dealing with cancer for the last three years. His fans were thanked for the prayers, and the family requested privacy during this tough battle in his career. A source told Page Six that Brandon had been in hospice, while TMZ mentioned that Brandon had been dealing with Melanoma, which is a serious form of skin cancer.

A source revealed to People that Kelly Clarkson has been devastated for her kids, River, 11, and Remington, 9. The source mentioned that Kelly had been protective of Brandon, for the sake of their kids, and she tried to keep things classy. The same source shared that it happened only this year that it became clear that Brandon was not keeping up well with his health.

In the same interview, the source shared that it was painful and messy for Kelly when she had to divorce Brandon Blackstock. As per the source, Kelly never wanted any negative impact of their dad's fall on their kids, which was why she never spoke ill about him to River and Remington. The source further revealed that Kelly always wanted their kids to have a beautiful relationship with their dad.
