Kaveri Kapur Reveals She Was 'Happy' Her Parents, Shekhar And Suchitra Got Divorced, 'It Took A...'

Kaveri Kapur is an accomplished singer who recently made her Bollywood acting debut with the romantic comedy film, Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story alongside Vardan Puri and Nisha Aaliya. The singer-actress is best known for her songs, Smell Of The Rain and Did You Know. She is the daughter of well-renowned filmmaker, Shekhar Kapur and actress and model, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. 

Kaveri Kapur opens up about her parents' divorce

Kaveri Kapoor recently sat for an interview with The Times of India, where she opened up about her parents, Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi's divorce. During the interview, the actress spoke about how her parent's relationship and divorce affected her. Kaveri admitted that she was happy when her parents parted ways.

However, it did take a toll on her mental health while growing up. Kaveri revealed that since her parent's separation was so public, she got exposed to many things as a child. She added that these things affected her mental health as an adult. Sharing about the same, she was quoted saying:

"It wasn't the separation that affected me as much as the relationship itself. I was happy when they got divorced. But yes, it took a toll, especially because it was so public. You get exposed to things a child wouldn't normally have to deal with. I have struggled with my mental health as an adult because of it."

Kaveri Kapur reveals about her struggles with mental health

In the same conversation, Kaveri Kapur revealed how her parents, Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi's divorce still affected her. She shared that she still struggled with her mental health but understands that it is a process. During the chat, she also admitted to having a condition called Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

For the unversed, it is a mental health condition that causes unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviours. Kaveri shared that she was healing and was grateful and happy. She was quoted as saying:

"I don't think I have yet. I still struggle with my mental health - it's a process. I have OCD, and I'm still healing. But I'm happy and grateful, and I know it takes time."

Kaveri Kapur revealed whether she is closer to her mother or father

In the same conversation, Kaveri Kapur was asked who she was closer to: her mother, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi or her father, Shekhar Kapur. The singer-actress responded by saying she is close to both of her parents in different ways. She added that her father is her best friend, and they often discuss relationships and philosophy.

On the other hand, she and her mother share a classic mother-daughter relationship, where her mother is her fierce protector and takes great care of her. She concluded by adding that she could turn to either of her parents when and as needed. Kaveri was quoted as saying:

"Both, but in different ways. My dad is like my best friend; we talk about relationships and philosophy. My mom and I have a classic mother-daughter dynamic; she is my fierce protector and takes care of me. I turn to either one depending on the situation."
