Kate And Brand's Big Fat Indian Wedding

The duo just redefined the notions of a big fat Indian wedding because their wedding was bigger, fatter and any day more extravagant than any other Indian wedding, this year.  There was an ostentatious display of everything under the sky and it seemed as if the bride and groom were trying to outdo each other in looking more appealing and flamboyant. Conventional Indian grooms should try taking a lesson or two from Russell, for his love of heavy locks, mascara and all sorts of things that add to his oomph factor.

Perry made sure that the décolletage of her wedding sarees did adequate justice to her cleavage. They made a really fine looking couple what with Perry dressed in ornately embellished bridal saree and Russell in a nudist tone Kurta topped with a heavily embellished sherwani jacket. Throughout the day Perry changed her costume many times(talk about being an indulgently pampered . Indian designers Shane and Falguni Peacock had contributed immensely to her trousseau along with the chiefly appointed Lebanese designer.

The groom arrived on a white mare decked in the best finery, accompanied by a procession of elephants and camels, 21 in all. Red carpets were rolled out everywhere for his welcome and a gorgeously decked bride clad in maroon awaited his arrival with a garland in hand. One by one, they went ecstatically through all the Hindu wedding rites and rituals.  The huge wedding canopy (mandap) in the centre of Aman-i-Khas was hung with yellow, orange and red ribbons making it a splendidly colorful wedding.

The duo read out their wedding speeches (yes, the bride also gave a speech) and Katy’s speech lasted good thirty minutes and the high point of it came when she actually talked about re-incarnation and her belief that she and Russell have been together since previous birth. Actually Katy, our Hindu tradition talks about a marriage lasting for seven births. So could you be a little explicit about the current number of your incarnation?

The reception menu was lavish, authentically Indian and totally vegan. Non alcoholic soft drinks were used for raising toasts as Russell insisted on a teetotaler wedding. The guests, dressed in Indian finery, enjoyed the services of a fortune telling parrot and learnt a few words of wisdom from the Indian priest, who predicted a happy and blissful marital life for the couple (as if he would have done otherwise on the very occasion).

Guess their wedding gifts to each other? Perry gifted a baby elephant while Russell bestowed the most beautiful lioness upon his equally gorgeous bride…now that is what I call an eclectically stylish couple.
