It was around the time she was running for a Congressional seat from New Hampshire that her path crossed with Nicholas's in 2022. Both of them were invited to an event hosted by a mutual friend. It was there that the two met and became acquaintances first. Talking about how they met, she shared:

“A mutual friend of ours hosted an event at a restaurant that he owns up in New Hampshire and invited my husband. I was speaking. We met and we were acquainted as friends."

When they met for the first time, Karoline was 25 and Nicholas was in his late 50s. When they tied the knot in January 2025, she was 28 and her husband was 60. The couple also welcomed a son, Niko, in July 2024. In a chat with Megyn Kelly, Karoline stated that Nicholas was the best dad. For the unversed, as the US President, Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt three days after Karoline gave birth.

She shared that it was a 'challenging conversation' to tell her parents about dating Nicholas, given their age gap. Especially since her then-boyfriend was older than her mother, Erin. "But then, of course, once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man, and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them. And now we're all friends. I mean, it's a typical family relationship. My husband has such respect for my parents and the way that they raised me, and we all have a lot of fun together when they come to visit."
