'Andaz Apna Apna' Designer Says Karisma Sent People To Spy On Raveena's Look, 'I Didn't Know..'

The cult classic film, Andaz Apna Apna, released in 1994, has set a benchmark in the history of Hindi film cinema. Despite not performing well at the box office, its unforgettable characters, hilarious storyline, iconic moments and an ensemble of actors who became superstars has made the film hold a special place in the hearts of fans. However, the journey of making this film wasn't easy. Salman and Aamir have often admitted that they were not fond of each other during the filming of Andaz Apna Apna and waited for the filming to end. At the same time, rumours about conflict between lead actresses, Karisma and Raveena broke the headlines. In a new interview, the film's costume designer, Ashley Rebello, shared an instance about the same.

Ashley Rebello reveals Karisma sent people to spy on Raveena's look 

Andaz Apna Apna has recently been re-released in cinemas after three decades, and amid this, the film's costume designer, Ashley Rebello, recently sat down for a conversation with India Today. He revealed that he used to work with Preeti Sinha's father, Vinay Kumar Sinha, during the early 90s and designers in those days worked in coordination with the producer, director, and actor. The designer shared that his first task was designing a nightgown for Raveena Tandon's song, Yeh Raat Aur Yeh Duri. Recalling the time, he said:

"I remember the first thing I designed a nightgown for Raveena Tandon for the song 'Yeh Raat Aur Yeh Duri', and for that, I did two or three outfit changes for her as the sequences were spread across different parts of the night."

Ashley added that he didn't knew Karisma Kapoor until then and worked with her later. The news about Raveena's look in the nightgown went viral on sets during the shoot. The diva, blessed with beauty, wore a yellow gown, which made people praise her. The designer shared that when Karisma learned about it, she sent people to spy on Raveena's look. In his words:

"She (Karisma) would send somebody or the other to see what Raveena was wearing. Apparently, word had got around that Raveena's look was stunning in that nightie. Raveena is a very attractive girl, and I think it was a yellow nightgown that she wore in that song. So, at one point, someone even passed on a message from Karisma saying, 'Wow, what a nightgown he has made, can he make something like that for me too? It was so much fun working on that film."

Andaz Apna Apna has become a classic film that makes people laugh till date. However, the actors involved during the film's shoot have accepted that they still wonder how the film was made because the actors and actresses weren't on talking terms. Karisma and Raveena accepted that they would look past each other outside the shoot. Aamir spoke about the rift with Indian Today and said:

"I was the only one who came on time.Karisma aati thi toh Raveena chali jaati thi. It was tough. Raveena and Karisma ka anban chal raha tha. I kept wondering how the film would ever be completed when people refused to shoot together."

Andaz Apna Apna, released in 1994, was written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. It starred an ensemble cast including Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor.
