Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan were once hailed as an adorable couple in Bollywood, but they didn’t have a happy ending. As per reports, the duo dated for five years before getting engaged with the blessings of their families in 2002. However, a year later, their relationship took an ugly turn, and the duo got separated. While their massive fanbase was waiting for Abhishek and Karisma to tie the knot, the ex-couple left everyone's hearts broken with their separation news.
In 2002, Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan also worked together in the film, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, directed by Dharmesh Darshan. However, the film couldn’t perform well at the box office. In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Darshan talked about the film's failure and revealed that he regretted handing the film over to his assistants. Talking about the lead actor's equation on set, the director said:
“It was the first and last time Abhishek and Karisma did a film together. Abhishek is a very sweet guy, but it wasn’t the same Lolo I’d seen during Raja Hindustani.”

The director further shed light on the after-effects of Abhishek and Karisma's break-up and revealed that the actress looked disturbed during the shoot of the film, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya. When he was asked about the reason behind the broken engagement of the ex-couple, Dharmesh revealed that Karisma seemed distracted after her separation from Abhishek. The director was quoted as saying:
“It showed in the film. I’m not a psychiatrist, I can’t interfere in their relationship. And I was hearing both sides, I’ll be honest with you. And I’m watching also.”
The film, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, received a lot of negative reviews from movie critics and even audiences disliked the film. After the film's release, Amitabh Bachchan also labelled it an old-fashioned love story. However, in the same interview, Dharmesh Darshan reacted to the same and shared that while Big B didn’t like the movie, Jaya Bachchan loved it. He added that the veteran actress liked the storyline and she also praised the aggression of the female lead in the movie.

Talking about the same, the director revealed that the duo was not destined to be together and used to fight a lot. Adding there was constant bickering, the director had said:
"They were really not the ‘made for each other’ kind. There was constant bickering. Maybe that’s how some people are. I always wondered if they are really the ‘made for each other’ kind of pair. Abhishek is a sweet fellow. Lolo is a very nice person too. But maybe some things are destined."
