Karisma Kapoor has been one of the most loved actresses of the ‘90s. She stepped into the world of glamour in 1991, and has worked in various blockbuster projects. Karisma was recently seen in the Netflix movie, Murder Mubarak. She starred in the Homi Adajania-directed mystery thriller with acclaimed actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Varma, Tisca Chopra, Sara Ali Khan, and more. On March 22, 2024, the star cast gathered together for a round table discussion with Neelesh Misra on Netflix India’s YouTube channel.

Karisma Kapoor shares the correct way to pronounce her name

During their conversation, the host asked Karisma Kapoor to tell him the correct pronunciation of her name. The actress revealed that her name should be spoken as ‘Karizzma’ as in ‘charisma’, and not the Hindi pronunciation ‘Karishma’, which means miracle. Her co-stars were surprised by this revelation, and Pankaj Tripathi was heard saying, “Mujhe bhi aaj hi pata chala”. Further, Sara chipped in and said, “But you never corrected anybody ever!” To this Karisma said:

“Because now itne saal ho gaye abhi jo bhi bulana hai, pyaar se bulate ho toh bula lijiye bas.”

Karisma Kapoor talks about her British roots

Karisma Kapoor further went on to tell the story behind her British roots. For those who don’t know, Karisma and Kareena’s maternal grandmother, Barabara was from Britain. Talking about club culture, the actress mentioned that she has seen club culture as her nani was British, and her maternal grandparents often used to visit clubs. Karisma further added:

“Growing up, we had a club culture. My nani (maternal grandmother) was a British, so my grandmother and grandfather would always go to the club in beautiful sarees and a pearl necklace. We would also go along with them. In a certain way, I have seen that culture. There were a lot of rules, there used to be a card room where kids were not allowed, so we used to peep into the room to see what’s happening over there, which aunty comes carrying what kind of bag.”

The same clip was shared on Netflix India’s official Instagram page. As soon as netizens saw it, they started penning down their thoughts on Karisma Kapoor’s revelation about her name. A user said, “Sara just finding out her name” is the funniest thing I've heard. Aren’t they related. Lmao.” A second one wrote, “For my entire life I thought it was Karishma?? Whaaaa?” A third netizen commented “Verma jee like, mai to inhe bachpan se Lolo bulata hoo.”

The host said that it must have been a different world for them to be a part of Raj Kapoor’s family.
