Sunjay Kapur, the UK-based businessman, who was widely known as the ex-husband of actress, Karisma Kapoor, took his last breath on June 12, 2025. Ever since Sunjay passed away, his family, including his third wife, Priya Sachdev, his ex-wife, Karisma Kapoor, his mom, Rani Kapur and the kids, have been involved in a legal dispute over his Rs. 30,000 crore property. Earlier, the counsel for Kiaan and Samaira, the kids of Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur, brought some shocking charges against Priya Sachdev, who is now Priya Sunjay Kapur. Now, Karisma’s lawyer has slammed her for limiting the inheritance of Kiaan and Samaira.
During the hearing of Sunjay Kapur’s Rs. 30,000 crore inheritance in the Delhi High Court on October 9, 2025, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor’s children, made some strong allegations against Priya Sachdev. Karisma’s children, Kiaan and Samaira, are fighting for their own share in their father’s massive property, which they believe is their fair share of the estate.
Slamming Priya, Mahesh compared her to the 'evil stepmother' from the fairytale, Cinderella. He also accused her of acting unfairly and trying to limit the inheritance meant for Karisma’s children. He claimed that Sunjay’s widow has already received a large portion of the assets, which is about 60% for herself, 12% for her own son, and 75% control over a trust. Mahesh told the court:
"This is a Cinderella stepmother. Who is really greedy? She has already got 60% of the assets, around 12% to her own son, and 75% of the trust. She was in such a hurry, she even started writing letters about Benami forms, which are used to decide beneficiaries of companies."
The senior advocate and Karisma’s lawyer, Mahesh, questioned whether the will presented at the court was genuine. He shared that it was quite unusual for an influential person like Sunjay Kapur to make a will without consulting a lawyer. Mahesh also pointed out several loopholes and errors in the will presented at the Delhi High Court. He also shared that the will was typed. In his words:
"It is not possible that Sunjay Kapur would not have consulted an advocate before creating a will and bequeathing such a large estate. This is not a normal case. There’s no reason why the executor wasn’t informed or why a lawyer wasn’t consulted. A genuine will by a well-positioned man in society does not suffer from loopholes and infirmities."
Mahesh added that the changes were made to the will while Sunjay Kapur was on a holiday with his son, and that the person who made those changes was later appointed as a director in one of the latter’s companies just a day after his funeral. He emphasised that forging a will is a serious crime that can lead to life imprisonment. The case, which revolves around Karisma Kapoor’s children, Kiaan and Samaira are being denied their rightful share, will resume in the Delhi High Court on October 16, 2025.
