Karisma Kapoor's Daughter's University Fees Are Due? Delhi HC Warns Parties To Avoid 'Melodrama'

Sunjay Kapur, the UK businessman widely known as Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband had tragically passed away in June 2025. For the unversed, the 53-year-old businessman, Sunjay, left for the heavenly abode on June 12, 2025. Within a month of the tragic incident, a will dated March 21, 2025, surfaced and on September 8, Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, moved to the Delhi High Court and filed a petition. They were backed by mom, Karisma and grandmother, Rani Kapur. Now, the ongoing legal drama involving Sunjay’s Rs. 30,000 crore estate has something new to offer.

For the unversed, according to Priya Sachdev, the widow of Sunjay Kapur, the will states that the businessman has left his entire personal estate to her and has excluded his children, Samaira and Kiaan. He has also excluded his own mother, Rani Kapur. But everyone concerned has challenged Priya’s words. Now, on November 14, 2025, senior advocate, Mahesh Jethmalani, who is representing Karisma’s kids in court, claimed that Samaira’s university fees are due for the last two months.

For the uninitiated, Samaira is currently studying at Tufts University in Massachusetts, USA. The senior advocate mentioned that Sunjay Kapur, under the matrimonial decree, is liable to fund his children’s education and expenses. The senior advocate also claimed that Priya Sachdev is currently controlling the children's estate. Earlier, Mahesh slammed Priya and compared her with the 'evil stepmother' from the fairytale, Cinderella.

During the court proceeding held on November 14, 2025, Priya Sachdev’s lawyer and senior advocate, Rajiv Nayar, dismissed the claims made by Karisma Kapoor’s lawyer, Mahesh Jethmalani. He stated that Sunjay Kapur’s widow has consistently provided whatever is necessary to the children and has also cleared the dues, including university fees. He highlighted that this matter was brought up in court just to grab the media’s attention.

The claim involving Samaira’s university fees due was made by Mahesh Jethmalani before Justice Jyoti Singh. She warned either party not to make the court proceedings 'melodramatic'. She also instructed Priya Kapur’s legal team to handle these kinds of situations outside the court and to ensure that matters are not brought up in court next time.
