Jab We Met. It has been thirteen years since we met the carefree Bhatinda ki Sikhni, Geet portrayed by Kareena Kapoor and sulky, handsome, serious Aditya played by Shahid Kapoor, and it had made us secretly believe that we could meet our special someone on one such train journey too. Be it teaching us the importance of self-love with ‘Main Apni Favourite Hoon’, the obsession of every girl with marriage since childhood – ‘Bachpan Se Hi Naa Mujhe Shaadi Karne Ka Bahut Craze Hai, By God’, or making us believe that all’s fair in love as ‘Jab Koi Pyaar Mein Hota Hai, Toh Koi Sahi Galat Nahi Hota’, Jab We Met was, is and will always be one of our ‘favourite’ films! Did you know that Imtiaz Ali came up with Jab We Met because of one of his friends who was depressed? It was in two and a half days that Imtiaz had finished writing the script of the film. And a lot happened during the shooting of the film. Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, who defined #CoupleGoals for most of us back then, parted ways and it was the former who had convinced the latter to do the film. Shahid and Kareena’s love story is still one of the most-talked-about celeb affairs of the Hindi film industry.
To mark 13 years of Jab We Met on October 26, 2020, Kareena Kapoor Khan posted a BTS picture with ex-beau and co-star in the film, Shahid Kapoor and director, Imtiaz Ali. Captioning it with a dialogue of the film, Kareena wrote, “'Mujhe toh lagta hai life mein jo kuch insaan real mein chahta hai, actual mein, usse wohi milta hai' #13YearsOfJabWeMet @imtiazaliofficial @shahidkapoor #ShreeAshtavinayakCineVision.” Fans couldn’t stop their excitement on seeing Kareena posting Shahid’s picture on her profile and tagging him. One Instagrammer commented, "God you tagged him", while another one wrote, "Wow did she actually post a pic with Shahid." Shahid’s brother, Ishaan Khatter, Kareena’s to-be sister-in-law, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma among other celebs also liked the post.
In an interview with The Times of India, Imtiaz Ali was asked “How was it with Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor? How would you define them as actors?” To which, he retorted, “Shahid and Kareena, at that time, were very different actors from each other. It was a lot of fun actually for me as a director because Shahid was very cerebral and we used to discuss and talk a lot, he was all there and very committed. Kareena was equally committed but she was more coming from a place of heart and she used to take a lot of pain and effort in doing dialogues.” (Also Read: Shahid Kapoor Was Kareena Kapoor's 12am Friend Whom She Could Call And Narrate A Bad Day [Throwback])

When asked if Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s break-up during the film had affected the shoot of Jab We Met, Imtiaz Ali continued, “I remember that she used to call me to the side and used to do dialogues a lot. She used to feel that she needs to get that right. But otherwise, the time spent was much less with Kareena than with Shahid in terms of like understanding the process etc. So, Kareena was more instinctive and I think both of them had their hearts in this film. I had a splendid time working with both of them. As far as their relationship is concerned, that’s personal and those things never affected the making of this film. As true professionals, they never let it.”
Back then, Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were quite vocal about their ‘more than just friends’ relationship in media interviews but a few years later, their love had died a slow death. Revealing the kind of a boyfriend he was, Shahid had once said in an interview with Cosmopolitan that he was very moody as sometimes he used to get all romantic and take then-girlfriend, Kareena for long drives, and sometimes, he used to get quite sporty and take her for jet-skiing. Talking about how it was jab Shahid had met Kareena, he had continued, "We were dating within the first week of meeting each other...so you can say that, yes, we hit it off the moment we met!"
