Karan Johar is one of the most recognised faces in Bollywood. The actor-filmmaker has made some of the most romantic films in Bollywood. Moreover, Karan is credited with pairing some of the most adorable couples in B-town, from Alia Bhatt - Ranbir Kapoor to Sidharth Malhotra-Kiara Advani. But Karan has always kept mum about his personal life despite being the ideal matchmaker on-screen and off-screen. Recently, the filmmaker sat down for an interview with Faye D'Souza and spilled the beans on his personal life.
Karan Johar shared that he is currently single and hasn't been in any relationship for a long time. He added that he has been only in "one and a half relationships" throughout his lifetime. However, he is happy over his 'single' status. The filmmaker feels more responsible towards his kids, Yash and Roohi, and his mom. He was quoted as saying:

"I am single and haven't been in a relationship for a very long time. In fact, I have been in one and a half relationships in my entire life. I can't tell you how much I enjoy my single status. I don't think I can change it now. Forget sharing a bathroom or bedroom or your space or schedule, I think the power of your day is with you. Your responsibility is to your children and your mom, that's about it."

When Karan turned 40, the reality of not being in a relationship made Karan feel an empty space in his life. However, since the filmmaker turned 50, he has not been actively looking for a relationship. Although, he is open to having a partner in his life. In his words:
"I did feel the vacuum when I turned 40, but when I turned 50, I felt like I didn't want it. I am not blocking it, but now I don't see it happening actively. I have gone through agencies, blind date situations, and met people in the country, and out of the country, now, if I find it well and good, I don't feel the need for it at all."
Karan previously gave an interview to Midday, revealing that when he was in his mid-30s, he realised that finding a partner wasn't easy for him. He experienced one-sided love, which inspired his film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. It lasted for several years and made him believe in the strength of love. Karan said:
"I have had a bout of one-sided love, which I made Ae Dil Hai Mushkil from. It was my sad ektarfa pyaar, which lasted many years, but taught me the power of love itself. Which is there in the line that Shah Rukh says, 'To love someone, you don't need that person'. I believe that very strongly; love became my weapon. It empowered me, even though it broke my heart."
