Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra hit theatres on October 11, 2024, and it has been in the headlines ever since. However, the film isn’t being talked about for the right reasons, as it has been getting dragged into one controversy after another. From accusations about plagiarism to claims about discriminatory filmmakers, it seems like Jigra has been tied to it all. But the film has finally been receiving some positive attention, and it’s all thanks to director, Vasan Bala. Amidst the good news, Vasan revealed that co-producer, Karan Johar is always standing behind him.
In a recently published story, The Indian Express called for Karan Johar to have Vasan Bala’s ‘back’ because of his fantastic direction in Jigra. Not long after, Vasan took to his Instagram account to reshare the story and assure fans of Karan’s steadfast support. Along with the story, Vasan wrote a caption that borrowed lines from the Jigra track, Tenu Sang Rakhna. It could be read as:

“They have my back, kujj na howe. Ye sab ho jaawe no matter what.”
However, Vasan wasn’t the only one to share the story. In fact, the first one to repost was Alia Bhatt, the lead of the film. Karan was third in line, reposting Vasan’s story and showing everyone that he was standing behind the director with a simple, reassuring message that read, "always and forever".
Most of Jigra’s controversies involve actress, Divya Khossla Kumar. She first accused the filmmakers of ripping off her movie, Savi, which was released in May of the same year. Not only that, but she also claimed the Jigra team was faking their box office collections. Divya posted a story featuring an empty theatre as the film played on the big screen to back up the same.

Divya’s accusation did not go completely unanswered, though, as Karan Johar responded to her in a cryptic post. In it, he shared an image with a quote highlighting that silence was the best answer for fools. Divya hit back at him yet again in a Hindustan Times interview, saying:
“Is it right to call a woman a fool for pointing out unethical practices? If this happens to me, what about those new to the industry? No one is a king here, and I won’t be treated like a subject.”
Actor, Bijou Thaanjam then came forward with claims that the Jigra filmmakers had discriminated against him. According to the actor, the team had locked him in for a role but then ghosted him when the shooting actually started. Bijou further claimed that as he waited around for updates from the Jigra team, he even lost out on other opportunities. In his words:
“I understand how big production houses operate. The director is undeniably talented, but the way they handled this entire situation was deeply unprofessional. For actors like me from the Northeast, it felt particularly dismissive, almost discriminatory.”
