Why Did Kanye West And Kim Kardashian Divorce? 'In Whose Name?' Documentary Reveals Her Warning

Kanye West has been a polarising figure in both the entertainment industry and politics. The rapper's genius in creating great music is undeniable. However, his social media opinions and public antics have made him a controversial figure. As news of his divorce from Kim Kardashian emerged in the wake of his political controversies, many people have speculated that this was the reason for their split.

A documentary, In Whose Name?, following the life of Kanye 'Ye' West from 2018 to the present day, with over 3000 hours of footage, has been recently released. It attempts to let viewers inside the rapper's psyche and explain the reasons behind many of the inexplicable things he did. It also showcases an exclusive phone call exchange between Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian. Amid this, here's the reason why the couple divorced.

Kim Kardashian recently hinted towards the reason for her divorce from Kanye West

In an earlier episode of The Kardashians, Kim and her sister, Khloe, were discussing their respective divorces from spouses Kanye West and Lamar Odom. Kim opened up about the difficulty of ending her marriage of six years with ex-husband, Kanye West. The Skims founder hinted that Kanye had changed as a person, and she wasn't able to live with the new person. Kim was quoted as saying:

“That’s the hardest part, I’ve been there, when you don’t foresee something happening that really changes a person’s personality and then they’re not the same person and you can’t ever get that person back—but you can’t live with the new person. I get it."

Did Kim Kardashian and Kanye West divorce over the rapper's bipolar disorder?

The information about Kanye West's bipolar disorder has been a known fact for many years. However, around 2018, when Kanye made a lot of controversial statements which were deemed offensive to different communities, it was reported that the rapper was off his medication. After this, as the rapper went off on a strange political tangent, it was reported that Kim Kardashian and he were heading for a divorce.

Though Kim has never confirmed this, many reports claim that Kanye's refusal to medicate for bipolar disorder, despite his strange tendencies at the time, was the reason why she filed for a divorce in 2021. The former couple, who share four children, were officially divorced in 2022.

Kanye West's In Whose Name? documentary reveals Kim Kardashian's warning to him

After Kanye West's politcal debacle in 2018, the rapper had a tense phone call exchange with his wife. This conversation was shared in the documentary In Whose Name? Kim Kardashian, who sounds very upset in the call, not only tells Kanye that he is losing everyone around him, but also warns him that one day he will wake up and have nothing. In part of the phone call, Kim states:

"I can't sleep. I've been crying all day. It's just this bad dream that's not ending. You're losing... everyone around you is like... there's a way to talk about what you feel. But when you're this dramatic...You're gonna wake up one day and you're gonna have, like, nothing."

More about In Whose Name? documentary on Kanye West

With a very polarising figure such as Kanye West, who is known as both a tortured genius and a subject for memes, in the centre of the documentary, it has become a topic of conversation. Director, Nico Ballesteros, who was only 18 at the time, followed Kanye West around since his meltdown in 2018. Away from the glamour and glitz of the rapper's world, as previously seen in Keeping Up With The Kardashians, this documentary gives viewers a chance to try to understand Kanye West.
