Kantara: Chapter 1, the prequel of the National Award-winning 2022 film, Kantara, has already hit the big screens. For the unversed, the mythological action drama was released on October 2, 2025. The film has grossed around Rs. 6 crore at the box office of India. Now that the film had an excellent start on Day 1, fans are eagerly waiting to dive into a new world of Rishab Shetty’s 'Kantara' world. While Kantara: Chapter 1 ends with the revelation of the title of Kantara Part 3, here comes a big update from the writer and director of Kantara, Rishab Shetty.
Kantara: Chapter 1 features the conflict between the 'Kantara' tribe and the Bangara kingdom. Gulshan Devaiah, who portrays 'Kulasekhara', is the new king of the Bangara kingdom, while Rishab Shetty, as 'Berme', leads the 'Kantara' tribe. Rukmini Vasanth portrays the role of 'Kanakavathi', the main villain. The climax scene revolves around 'Berme' defeating 'Kanakavathi' and moving forward to the present time, when Shiva’s son enquires about the hidden secrets behind the circular pit. The film concludes with the title revelation of Kantara Part 3, titled Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 2.
In a recent interview with Subhash K Jha, Rishab revealed whether Kantara Part 3 is happening or not. When the filmmaker was asked about Kantara Part 3, he expressed that Part 3 will only happen if there is something new. He mentioned that he doesn’t want to make anything that looks repetitive. Even if it is expected to come, Rishab clarified that Kantara 3 will be made if something better comes along the way. In his words:
"I don't want to keep doing anything repetitive. I won't do Part 3 unless there's something better and meaningful to explore. That is exactly why we are doing the prequel, because it felt natural, because the world of Kantara has a lot of depth. But simply making Kantara 3 because of demand? That's not something I want to do."
Rishab Shetty’s directorial, Kantara: Chapter 1, has been released in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, and English. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, the mythological action drama is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster, Kantara. The film takes audiences back to the Kadamba dynasty, exploring the untold story of Shiva’s ancestors. The film features mythological roots and the conflicts that shaped the legacy introduced in the original film.
Film critic, Kuldeep Gadhavi called Kantara: Chapter 1 as 'pure goosebumps from start to finish'.
