Alia Bhatt’s much-anticipated project, Jigra, finally hit theatres today, October 11, 2024. However, the film’s reception by critics and audiences alike has been mixed. On its first day, the film earned a modest Rs. 3.58 crore, as it faced stiff competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Tamil film, Vettaiyan. Amidst the speculation, Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram with a cryptic story that many believe is aimed at Jigra star, Alia Bhatt.
Kangana Ranaut has always been known as a firebrand, never holding back from sharing her unfiltered opinions. Recently, she took to Instagram with a story about “woman-centric films”, and netizens believed it could be a subtle dig at Alia. Kangana wrote on her story:
“When you destroy woman-centric films and make sure that they don't work, they don't work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks.”
For the unversed, netizens’ assumption that Kangana’s latest story is a dig at Alia isn’t a far leap. After all, the Queen actress has shaded the latter on multiple occasions in the past. Once in an interview, Kangana’s performance was compared to Alia’s in Gully Boy. She had a sharp retort to the same and said:
“I am embarrassed. What is there to beat in Gully Boy Performance? Same snappy muh phat girl. Bollywood’s idea of a fiery girl, woman empowerment and good acting, spare me this embarrassment, please. Media has taken filmy kids love too far. Stop pampering mediocre work or else bar will never be raised.”
Kangana also dropped a not-so-veiled message before the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi. In it, she attacked Alia, Karan Johar, and other directors that followed him, as she wrote:

“This Friday 200 crore will be burnt to ashes at the box office… for a Papa (Movie Mafia Daddy) ki pari (who likes to keep a British Passport) because Papa wants to prove that romcom bimbo can act... biggest drawback of the film is wrong casting... Yeh nahi sudhrenge, no wonder screens are going to South and Hollywood films... Bollywood is destined to doom jab tak movie mafia has power.”
Kangana Ranaut’s remarks aside, netizens, too, seem unsure about Jigra. While some users praise Alia’s “powerful” performance, others call the movie a drag and a “waste of money”.
One X user expressed their awe at Alia Bhatt’s acting, writing, “Alia Bhatt - the actor that you are. Girl pulled of action, emotions, acting so effortlessly...such a heartwarming movie!” However, another commenter remarked, “Alia Bhatt performs well but that's not enough. The film is dragged and the entire film revolves around jailbreaking and not the main conflict. The basic issue is that the film isn't entertaining. Another victim of poor writing.”
What do you think about Kangana Ranaut’s latest dig, which netizens believe is directed at Alia Bhatt? Let us know.
