Kamini Kaushal is one of the most prolific figures of Indian cinema, who worked in more than 90 films throughout her career. On November 14, 2025, Kamini Kaushal passed away. It was reported by sources to the media that the actress, who was 98 years old, was suffering from age-related ailments. The family's privacy has been requested during this tough time. Kamini Kaushal began her career with the movie Neecha Nagar in 1946, which won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival 1946.
Following this, Kamini Kaushal appeared in several movies such as Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar, Shabnam, Arzoo, Biraj Bahu, Do Bhai, Ziddi, Shabnam, Paras, Namoona, Jhanjar, Aabroo, Bade Sarkar, Jailor, Night Club and Godaan. Apart from that, she also appeared on television, and one of her famous works was Chhand Sitare on Doordarshan.

For those who don't know, Kamini was a stage artist from 1942 to 1945, and before the partition, she used to be a radio child artist from 1937 to 1940, and she was known by the name of 'Uma'. She was born in Lahore, and her dad, Prof. Shiv Ram Kashyap, was regarded as the father of Indian Botany. The actress lost her father at the age of 7, and she was the youngest of two brothers and three of her sisters. Well, Kamini was really enthusiastic about learning a whole lot of things, and she, once in an interview, said that she never had a crush, and she would spend time swimming, riding, skating and doing radio plays on Akashwani, which led her to get paid the amount of Rs. 10.

It was in 1948 when things changed in Kamini Kaushal's life. Her elder sister, who was married with two daughters, passed away after she met with an accident. Kamini was left with the responsibility of taking care of her sister's two daughters, Kumkum Somani (author) and Kavita Sahni (artist). Following the death of her sister, Kamini Kaushal had to get married to her brother-in-law, B.S. Sood, Chief Engineer at Bombay Port Trust. It was not a marriage out of desire, but rather it was a sense of responsibility, and a family wish that Kamini fulfilled. Kamini and Sood welcomed three kids after 1955, Rahul, Vidur and Shravan.

Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu's love story will always be an iconic one to their fans, but very less people know that not Saira Banu but the actor's first love was Kamini Kaushal. Reportedly, the duo formed a deep emotional bond with each other while filming their film, Shaheed. Anshula Bajpai and Trinetra Bajpai's book, Dilip Kumar: Peerless Icon Inspiring Generations, revealed that Dilip loved his 'first love' Kamini with all his heart, and the duo together did three movies.

Well, reportedly, after being together for a while, the duo had to part ways, and it was due to Kamini's military brother. It was director PN Arora who revealed that after learning about his already-married sister, Kamini's affair with Dilip Kumar, her military brother threatened to kill both of them. As per the director, her brother came with a gun on the set and threatened that he would kill her if she had continued her affair with Dilip.

Reportedly, this incident affected both Kamini and Dilip, and eventually, they parted ways. Years later, back in 2013, Kamini met Dilip at the memorial service for the veteran actor, Pran. Reportedly, as Dilip was suffering from memory loss during that time, he couldn't recognise Kamini, who, as per DNA, shared that he saw her with a blank glance. She reportedly said in an interview:
“It made me very sad to see that, and I walked away."
As per a report by IANS, Kamini Kaushal once talked about her husband, B.S Sood's reaction to her affair with Dilip Kumar. She reportedly reflected on her relationship with Dilip Kumar and said that after they parted ways, they both simply shattered. She mentioned that she couldn't just dump other people, as she had taken on the daughters of her sister, and if she had done the same, she wouldn't be able to show her face to her sister and husband. She also shared that her husband had understood the entire situation and why it happened. Sharing that everyone, in their lifetime, falls in love, Kamini said:
"We were both shattered. We were very happy with each other. We shared a great rapport. But that’s life. I couldn’t dump people and say ‘Enough now, I’m going!’ I had taken on the girls. I wouldn’t be able to show my face to my sister. My husband, a fine human being, understood why it happened. Everyone falls in love."

In a 2017 interview, Kamini Kaushal talked about her bond with Dilip Kumar. She talked about Dilip's illness and mentioned that it's hurtful to see Dilip in such a state. She also addressed the buzz around her and Dilip Kumar's bond and mentioned that decades had passed since then, and that everyone had their share of stories in their lives, and parts where they surely had to let go of things. Kamini further added that she and Dilip worked together, and they looked good, and people actually linked them to see much of their work.

Dilip Kumar, too, talked about his bond with Kamini Kaushal, as reported by IANS. Talking about Kamini, he said that she was the only one with whom he could achieve total identification. He also warmly mentioned that everyone falls in love once, and if there's any 'again' after that, that's a mere imitation of that flame. Dilip Kumar reportedly said:
"She (Kamini) was the only one with whom I achieved total identification. I think everybody falls in love only once. ‘Again’ - if there is an ‘again’ - is merely an imitation of the brilliant flame, the blinding light, the days of trance, the nights of impatience and waiting, and days of such happiness that one cannot believe they will last."
We wish Kamini Kaushal's family strength to deal with this tough time!
