For the uninitiated, Kamal Haasan directed the Badshaah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan starrer 2000 film, Hey Ram. However, Kamal Haasan now in a candid conversation during the trailer launch of his upcoming movie, Hindustani 2, revealed that Shah Rukh Khan did not take a penny for Hey Ram. And citing this example, the film director drew a round of applause from the audience. Kamal further said:
“Let me talk on behalf of Mr SRK because I am sure that he’ll allow me to do that. When we worked together, we were all just people. I don’t see a superstar; he doesn’t see a super director. We are friends. As a matter of fact, Shah Rukh saab made that film (Hey Ram) for free. What more do you need?”
Kamal Haasan continued talking about how the audiences make the stars a “superstar”. However, no star ever thinks of themselves despite achieving such heights in their career. Kamal mentioned that this makes them true fans of cinema. In Kamal's words:
“That’s not something a superstar would do. That takes a true fan of cinema, a connoisseur of art, and a brilliant actor. I’m incredibly grateful to him. We don’t see ourselves that way. You, the audience, give us these titles, and we shyly accept them.”
