Kalki Koechlin is a prominent actress in India who has worked extensively in Hindi films, stage shows and web series. Known for playing complex and unconventional roles, she has made a special place in the hearts of fans through performances in films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani and more. In her personal life, she grew up surrounded by nature in Auroville and Kallatty near Ooty. Consequently, when the actress was pregnant, and it came to bringing her daughter into the world, she chose the water birth method, which seemed more natural to her. The concept became popular in India thanks to her. Recently, Kalki shared some interesting insights about it.
Kalki Koechlin recently sat down for an interview with Aleena Dissects and discussed her water birth experience. She shared that choosing the method made her delivery easy, and she feels it should become the standard norm for giving birth. Kalki, who herself did a lot of research before choosing the method, shared that she found it was ideal for a mother and her newborn baby, which also makes the recovery process smoother for women. In her words:
"I feel this should be the standard practice. Water birthing is much easier on the body, much easier when you are giving natural birth. There's so much research that it's easier for the baby when it comes out because it was in the amniotic fluid already, so it is not a big shock, and for the woman, in terms of recovery, it's a smoother process in general. I think it should be the protocol."
The host asked Kalki what she felt was the reason behind people's reluctance to choose the method. In her reply, the actress explained that there is not much information about it, which means the majority of people aren't aware of it. At the same time, it is an expensive procedure which makes people take a step back from it. However, the biggest obstacle behind it is a misconception that people think it's some weird witches' practice. Sharing her views, Kalki said:
"I don't know why people don't opt for it. I guess here it's more expensive so that's a big reason why people don't opt for it but there are places where you can do it in a hospital also. It's not like some exclusive thing. You can. But people probably are not informed enough about it. They just think it's some weird cult or something, some weird chudail practice. I don't know what they are thinking."
Kalki Koechlin wrote a book titled Elephant In The Womb after she welcomed her daughter, Sappho, in 2020 with her partner Guy Hershberg. During the promotion of her book with Hindustan Times, she shared that despite being an actor where appearances play a significant role, she was in no hurry to lose weight or change her appearance after giving birth to a daughter because she didn't meet many people. Despite feeling at the beginning that she wouldn't get back to her shape, she managed to do it after a year.
Kalki Koechlin was born to French parents who lived in India. She was born in Pondicherry. The actress later went to London to study theatre and worked in a local theatre group. Kalki debuted with Dev D. She became a household name with her work in films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, That Girl in Yellow Boots, Gully Boy, Margarita with a Straw and more.
