'Kalamkaval' OTT Release, When And Where To Watch Mammootty's Crime Thriller Drama Movie

Mollywood superstar, Mammootty's movie, Kalamkaval, which released on December 5, 2025, had a good theatrical release and fans were blown out with the story telling, narration and direction of the film. The movie was directed by Jithin K. Josh and got good reviews from critics who had applauded the narrative, the theme, which was eerie and Mammotty's role of an ambiguous character. The film did well at the box office due to strong word of mouth, and the movie earned around Rs. 83 crore globally when the theatrical run ended.

Kalamkaval is now all set for the OTT release, and fans who could not watch it in cinemas, they now have a chance to watch Mammooty's recent work. Kalamkaval is now set to release on Sony LIV, and the crime thriller will now stream from January 16, 2026, after having a 40-day theatrical run. For the unversed, the story of Kalamkaval is about a Special Branch officer named, 'Jayakrishnan' who has been assigned to investigate a case of communal disturbance. It gets sparked when there is an elopement of a young woman.

What initially looks like a straightforward case then tangles into a tangled mystery as varied events add up to the same. When 'Stanlley Das' a Tamil Nadu Crime Branch Officer arrives the investigation becomes broader and it becomes frustrating as it is out of reach. The narrative creates tension as officers are discovering truth behind all the chaos. Mammooty plays the role of 'SI Stanley Das' who is from Crime Branch, Tamil Nadu Police.

Kalamkaval movie's entire cast details

Vinayakan plays the role of 'SI Jayakrishnan' from the Special Branch, Kerala Police. Gibin Gopinath essays 'Anand', Gayatri Arun plays 'Shiny', while Rajisha Vijayan essays 'Divya'. On the other hand, Shruti Ramachandra plays 'Deepa', Azees Nedumangad as 'SI Babu Vijayan' while Kunchan plays 'Mathew' and Biju Pappan as 'SP Thomas'. Actress, Malvika Mohanan plays 'Shruthi'. Speaking of the background score of the film and songs, it has been composed by Mujeeb Majeed, which was well received by the fans. The storytelling of Kalamkaval has been intense, while the performances have been strong, and it is a full-on box office appeal. The movie is expected to attract fans after it releases on the OTT.

Kalamkaval has been Mammotty's most well-known project

Malayalam superstar, Mammootty, after a small break, came on the big screen with the crime drama, Kalamkaval. He is seen reuniting with Vinayakan after both of them collaborated in the 2010 movie, Best Actor. Kalamkaval has been directed by debutant director Jithin K Jose, who is also known for penning Kurup, which starred Dulquer Salmaan. Speaking about Mammootty's role in the movie, director, Jithin K Jose earlier had told Mathrubhumi in an interview:

"Kalamkaaval gave him ample scope to explore the layers of emotion, and he approached it with full enthusiasm. Watching him transform into the character on set was a privilege.”

Speaking more about the technical crew of Mammootty's movie, Kalamkaval, the cinematographer of the movie was done by Faisal Ali. Praveen Prabhakar edited the movie, while Mujeeb Majeed was the music director, and Shaijie Naduvil was the production designer of the movie. Kalamkaval has been backed by none other than Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Mammooty reportedly charged Rs. 8 to Rs. 10 crore for the movie.
