After getting married to Ajay in 1999, Kajol and Ajay started planning for kids. However, before giving birth to their first child, Nysa, Kajol underwent two painful miscarriages. In a throwback interview with Humans of Bombay, Kajol talked about her miscarriages before the birth of her kids, Nysa and Yug. Recalling how one of the miscarriages happened during the making of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kajol shared:
“Over time, we began planning to have kids. I was pregnant during Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001 but had a miscarriage. I was in the hospital that day–the film had done so well, but it wasn’t a happy time. I had another miscarriage after that–it was tough. But eventually, it worked out–we had Nysa and Yug and our family’s complete.”
Kajol and Ajay Devgn’s love story is quite unusual. When they started dating, she was one of the top-notch actresses of the 90s, and he was making a mark in the industry. Her decision to get married to Ajay came as a surprise to her fans, friends, and even her family. Critics had labelled them an ‘unlikely pair’, and many commented that they would not last long because of their contrasting personalities.

Kajol’s friends had even warned her as he had quite a reputation, but he was different with her and that’s what mattered to her. In Neha Dhupia’s chat show, No Filter Neha, Kajol opened up about her marriage and revealed that her father didn't talk to her for a week when she expressed her desire to marry Ajay. She also revealed that her father enquired why she wanted to get married at such a young age and at the peak of her career, to which Kajol replied that she was in love with Ajay and had wanted to settle down.
Kajol and Ajay never resorted to the usual ‘I love you’, and there was no dreamy proposal either. The decision to get married was quite mature and both had grown with each other. Ajay had wanted the wedding to be a private affair and do you know, he had not even hired professional photographers for the wedding.
Kajol was at the peak of her career when she decided to settle down. In an interview with IANS, the actress revealed the reason behind the same and stated she worked relentlessly for eight to nine years and felt it was time to take it easy. Kajol further added that she was doing four to five films a year and didn’t want to do it for the rest of her life. That was the moment when she decided that she would get married and do one film a year and would be happier like that.

After the birth of Kajol’s elder child, Nysa, in 2003, the actress took a sabbatical and made her comeback with the film, Fanaa. Seven years after the birth of Nysa, Kajol gave birth to a baby boy in 2010, whom they named Yug. Just like any other couple, Ajay and Kajol also had their share of ups and downs. Sometime back, a popular magazine had published Ajay’s alleged affair with a young actress. It was Kajol, who stood by her husband and lashed out at the rumours. Speaking to a leading media portal, Kajol said:
“I don't believe in those rumours because I know the way this industry functions. You cannot continue a marriage without basic trust. Frankly, I don't care for such talk.”
Even after so many years of marriage, Kajol and Ajay are madly in love with each other, and the actress gives the whole credit of the same to her kids.
