A winter chill that has been setting in the air has brought with it hints of the upcoming Puja festivities that will fill Indians across the world with warmth and excitement. Dussehra is around the corner, and devotees from all walks of life have started to observe the festivities in honour of the Goddess Durga. Bollywood divas and cousins, Kajol and Rani Mukerji, have also unveiled their family's Durga Puja pandal, continuing a years-long tradition. Here's a look at Mukerji's celebrations.
The Mukerjis of Bollywood have carried on the tradition of organising their annual North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja. As every year since one can remember, this year too, Kajol and Rani Mukerji unveiled the idol of Goddess Durga. The cousin-sisters looked gorgeous in their traditional attire. Kajol wore a beige-hued organza saree with zari border work and a red blouse. Meanwhile, Rani was dressed in a white, Bengali silk-blend saree. Both Mukerji sisters opted for minimal make-up and looked absolutely beautiful.
Kajol and Rani Mukerji took down the curtains at the pandal to unveil the idol of 'Durga Maa' as the Durga Devi Strotram, 'Aigiri Nandini' played in the background. After the idol became completely visible, both the Mukerji sisters joined their hands and bowed while looking entranced in devotion. It was evident that Kajol and Rani had gotten emotional looking at the Goddess.
Kajol and Rani Mukerji weren't the only Mukerji children present at the pandal. They were also joined by the former's sister, Tanishaa and their cousin, Ayan Mukerji. Popular Bollywood director, Ayan of Brahmastra fame, celebrated Durga Puja for the first time after his father, Deb Mukherjee's passing. Lovingly known as Debu by the family, the veteran actor passed away on March 14, 2025.
Tanishaa revealed to IANS that their 'Debu Kaka' was the one who used to organise the Durga Puja pandal every year. Hence, this time the festivities brought both sadness and excitement for the Mukerjis. For the unversed, Rani Mukerji was a co-organiser for the family's Durga Puja 2025. Tanishaa shared:

"It is a time of little sadness for our family, along with a little excitement because this year there have been three deaths in our family. Our Debu Kaka (Deb Mukherjee), who used to organise Durga Puja every year, is no more, and for us it would be a little difficult to attend the puja this time. However, there is a lot of excitement as well because we are taking his dream forward."
Each year, Kajol and Rani Mukerji are at the forefront of their family's crowd, excitedly talking to relatives and showering flowers on the idol of Goddess Durga. This year, as well, their devotions have not lessened one bit, but the celebrations have been understandably subdued, given the emotional state of the family after losing three loved ones.
