The 2001 family drama, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, is still a part of everyone’s childhood. It is imbibed in everyone’s heart as one of the classic films with a huge cast. Be it the sassy 'Poo' (Pooja) or the carefree Punjabi kudi, 'Anjali', every character in the film gave something to remember. It was one of the highest-grossing Indian films of that time. But do you know the entire budget of the film was spent on making the song, Bole Chudiyan?
In a chat with Radio Nasha, filmmaker, Nikhil Advani recalled that when he and Karan Johar narrated the story to Yash Johar, he asked them about the budget, and the filmmakers wrote Rs. 3 crores. Recalling the same, he said:
“When we narrated the script of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to Yash Johar, he called me to his office and asked me to write the budget. I wrote Rs 3 crore. It was approved, and we were told to begin the film.”

In the same interaction, Nikhil revealed that the film’s very first set was Bole Chudiyan, and it was very chaotic with 200 dancers and 300 junior artists. Revealing how the entire budget was spent on one song, Nikhil revealed:
“Our very first set was for Bole Chudiyan. Karan Johar fainted on set. Kajol had issues with her lehenga and couldn’t dance. There was complete chaos—200 dancers, 300 junior artistes. We even manufactured jhoomars because Karan wanted everything to look grand."

While there was a lot of chaos and unsaid things that happened on the set, Yash Johar realised that the entire amount sanctioned to make the film had been spent on one song. Yash Johar decided to take a call with Nikhil and Karan on a chai break. When he asked them what was the budget of the film, Nikhil said he doesn’t remember it.

At the moment, Yash Johar took out a paper on which Nikhil had sought an amount as the film's budget and showed it to the filmmaker. Recalling how Yash Johar reacted after the entire budget was spent on one song, Nikhil retorted:

“He asked, ‘How much was it?’ I said, ‘I don’t remember.’ He then pulled out the paper I had given him, read it aloud—‘Rs 3 crore’—and said, ‘The set you’ve created has already cost more than that.’ He tore the paper and told us, ‘Now, you make the film!’"
There are many surprising facts about the film. It was Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, who played the role of his father, Shah Rukh, as a child in the opening scenes of K3G. Similarly, in the film K3G, Johny Lever and his son, Jesse Lever, played the role of a father-son duo as well.
