IPL 2025: Who Is Jofra Archer? Harbhajan Singh's 'Kaali Taxi' Comment, Allegedly Dating A Cricketer

Jofra Chioke Archer, commonly known as Jofra Archer, is one of the most recognised fast bowlers in world cricket at the moment. The cricketer was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, on April 1, 1995, and while his father is English, Jofra's mother is Barbadian. After completing a seven-year residency period in England, he was allowed to play for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The fast bowler made his first-class debut for Sussex in July 2016 and List A debut against Gloucestershire in 2016.

Jofra Archer made his ODI debut for England against Ireland on May 3, 2019. The fast bowler rose to fame and recognition when he was included in England's squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. It was Archer's super over in the final against New Zealand that handed England its first-ever World Cup win in the tournament's history of 48 years.

After making his mark at the international level, Jofra Archer went on to play domestic cricket in a series of different countries. For the uninitiated, Jofra Archer has played in the Bangladesh Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Australia's Big Bash League, and the Indian Premier League. 

Rajasthan Royals purchased Jofra Archer for a staggering amount of 800,000 pounds during the 2018 IPL auction. The pacer proved his worth in his debut match against Mumbai Indians as he took three wickets on the day and won the 'Player of the Match' award. In the 2020 IPL season, Jofra won the 'Most Valuable Player' award despite his team, Rajasthan Royals, finishing in the second half of the points table. In the 2022 IPL auction, Jofra Archer was brought by Nita Ambani's team, Mumbai Indians and was released in 2025.

Jofra Archer missed the IPL 2024 due to injury, and when it was confirmed that the English pacer would be back for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025, fans were excited about his homecoming. Unfortunately, in RR's opening match against Chennai Super Kings, Jofra Archer conceded 76 runs in four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The bowler registered his name in a history book, as it was the most expensive one in IPL's history.

After Jofra Archer's expensive spell for Rajasthan Royals, the English pacer received widespread criticism from the cricket world. However, iconic Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh crossed the line and made an insensitive comment on Jofra Archer. After Heinrich Klaasen hit back-to-back boundaries against Archer, Harbhajan, who was on commentary, duty compared Jofra to a London taxi. He said:

"London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai."

Jofra Archer's dating life: Rajasthan Royals fast-bowler has been linked with Hayley Matthews and Druanna Butler

Talking about Jofra Archer's dating life, he is reportedly dating a lady named Druanna Butler. According to a report in Crictoday, Jofra and Druanna have been spotted together in public places quite often. However, they still haven't officially confirmed their alleged relationship. Before Druanna, Barbarian cricketer, Hayley Matthews was reportedly dating Jofra Archer. The duo has been friends for a long time, and Jofra has helped Hayley improve her game. Although the alleged couple always denied their dating rumours, Hayley and Jofra continued caring for each other and being one another's loudest cheerleaders.  We hope Jofra soon picks up his form and returns to his former glory.
