Jimmy Kimmel's oldest daughter welcomed a baby girl in May 2025

On May 19, 2025, Jimmy Kimmel had to take an abrupt night off. On May 20, 2025, the host said that in the history of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, it was the second time in 22 years that he had to do so. And the reason for this leave was that Jimmy's daughter, Katie Kimmel, welcomed her baby girl, making the host a proud grandfather for the first time. The host joked about his daughter's age and said:

“We were supposed to have a show last night, but we didn’t because my daughter had a baby last night. People don’t realize — people know I have two little kids. I also have two older kids. My oldest daughter, she’s 83 years old, her name is Katie.”

Known for his biting humour, Jimmy Kimmel joked that his daughter is 83 years old. However, Katie, who is the daughter of the host and his first wife, Gina Maddy, is 33 years old. The former couple also have a son named Kevin, who is 31. Jimmy and Gina were married for fourteen years before parting ways in 2002. Then, he tied the knot with Molly McNearney, and they also share two kids, Jane and Billy, aged ten and eight. Referring to this, Jimmy Kimmel stated that most people are aware of his younger children but are not familiar with his oldest daughter and son, who are adults. That is why Jimmy Kimmel's becoming a grandfather came as a surprise to everyone.

Katie Kimmel and her husband, Will Logsdon named their daughter, Patti Joan. Jimmy Kimmel revealed this tidbit in an episode and stated that the middle name 'Joan' was a tribute to his mother and Katie's grandmother, Joan Kimmel. The host said about his grandbaby's name:

"The baby is healthy. They gave her a very cute name...Her name is Patti."

After this, Jimmy Kimmel went on to make the audience laugh by sharing the strange and funny things his own grandparents would do. The host said that his paternal grandfather would use a police siren to cut through traffic despite having no affiliation with law enforcement. While his maternal grandfather would use lighter to give himself a haircut. Jimmy Kimmel then stated that he would also have to 'figure out something weird to teach his granddaughter'. 

Jimmy Kimmel said that being a grandfather is easier than being a father 

In an episode with Tom Hiddleston, Jimmy Kimmel talked with the actor about being a grandfather. When asked by the actor how it feels to be one, Jimmy Kimmel said that its easier than being a father. Then Tom asked if he was competing with his fellow grandparents. To this, Jimmy replied:

"There's definitely a ranking in my head. That is my granddaughter's decision to make, but trust me I will do all I can to be numero uno."
