Jim Sarbh is one of the most phenomenally talented actors in Bollywood, who has indeed left all jaws dropped with some of his versatile roles in a number of projects. He made his debut as the antagonist in Sonam Kapoor’s acclaimed film, Neerja. Thereafter, he pulled off some of the most challenging roles in a number of blockbusters, including Padmaavat, Sanju, Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rocket Boys and more.
In a recent interaction on Suchin Mehrotra’s The Streaming Show, Jim Sarbh recollected some of the most poignant experiences he had early on in his career, wherein he received a starkly different treatment unlike other leading actors and film stars. When asked about the advice he would have wanted to give to his younger self, Jim expressed to have had stronger control over anger. He explained how he used to get tremendously angry over such behaviour. In his words:

“Don’t get angry. I was young, I was pretty hot-headed. I got angry. I couldn’t understand how people could be like this. I just couldn’t understand it. I came from some amount of working in the States, and then from a we’re-all-equal theatre space… I just couldn’t… I just could not believe it. It made me very angry. Angry and upset and hurt and disappointed.”

“I felt that there was some kind of honour in telling the truth, even if that truth looked angry. And no one gives a s**t. No one cares about your truth. They just don’t want to be talked to in a certain way.”
Towards the conclusion of the conversation, Jim Sarbh shared another hurtful experience of his, when he was asked to travel by train by a producer for a project, since he was a side artist. He added how on the contrary, special arrangements were made for the leading star, leaving him quite shocked over such an alienating gesture.

Agree or not, Jim Sarbh has been one such actors who has been quite up front about sharing his honest criticism of what he finds wrong. For instance, in a previous interview with The Quint, Jim had talked about a certain sphere of actors, who tend to brag about the kind of processes they had gone through, in order to fit well with a certain kind of role that they were supposed to do. Furthermore, he took a jibe at them and expressed how later on these very actors claimed to undergo mental therapy after portraying the role, while in reality, they weren’t even able to memorise their lines. He had said:
“There are all those actors who are like, you know, I was so stuck in my character that I had to get mental therapy for weeks after. I was like, shut up bro. You didn’t even know your lines on the day, what nonsense.”
