Jerry Adler, the behind-the-scenes Broadway veteran, passed away at the age of 96, and his family recently confirmed the same. Confirming his death, Frank J. Reilly wrote on X (Twitter) that the great actor and his friend have passed away. Well, Jerry, although he worked behind the scenes, didn't make his acting debut till he was 60. And no sooner did he do the same, than he grabbed the attention as an actor as well. Over the years, he continued to provide some of the notable works to his fans, and his passing surely left a scar on their hearts. Today, we'll look closely at the actor's life.
Jerry Adler was destined to rule the entertainment space; having said that, people know that his career spanned seven decades in the same industry. Jerry was born in 1929 in Brooklyn, NYC, to a family steeped in the culture of the theatrical arts. His father, Philip Adler, was the manager of New York City’s influential Group Theatre, and it was the same reason that the actor was attracted to this space from an early part of his childhood.
Apart from his father, Jerry's great-uncle, Jacob Pavlovich Adler, was a Yiddish theatre actor, while his cousins played notable roles in acting and theatre education. From an early age, Jerry was exposed to arts and culture, which eventually started to boost. He started his schooling at the Samuel J. Tilden High School, where he reportedly was the president of the Dramatic Club. His professional journey began in 1950, when he worked as an assistant manager for the Broadway musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Over the years, he had taken up several roles, including director, producer, production supervisor, stage manager and more. Through this behind-the-scenes glamour world, Jerry Adler worked on projects like Of Thee I Sing, My Fair Lady, The Apple Tree, Black Comedy/White Lies, Dear World, Coco, 6 Rms Riv Vu, Annie, and I Remember Mama. For directing My Fair Lady, Jerry Adler won a nomination for the Drama Desk Award.
If the reports are to be believed, Jerry Adler first appeared on the screens back in the 1990s in the Gary David Goldberg sitcom Brooklyn Bridge on CBS. After that, he was seen in Mad About You, playing the role of 'Mr. Wicker'. Following this, he was seen in the critically acclaimed HBO series, The Sopranos, wherein he played the role of a Jewish adviser, 'Herman “Hesh” Rabkin' to the mob. He was seen in the series for seven years, and his acting skills left the audience awestruck.

He also worked in series such as Hudson Street, Rescue Me, Transparent and The Good Wife, among others. He also acted in several films such as Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), In Her Shoes (2005), and Prime (2005). His acting skills in the movies and series have grabbed a whole lot of attention, and earned him a whole lot of respect in the industry.
If the reports are to be believed, Jerry Adler had been married thrice in his life. In the 1950s, he got married to Dolores Parker, and the couple had three children. He kept his personal life private. Reportedly, he got married for the second time with Cathy Rice, which was also short-lived. In 1994, Adler got married to Joan Laxman, and they remained married ever since. As per a report by Mabumbe, Jerry's net worth is estimated to be around USD 8 million, although not confirmed.
