It was during one of the episodes on KBC when Amitabh Bachchan fondly talked about his brother, Ajitabh Bachchan. He shared that his brother was the one to click his photos in Kolkata that were shared with every producer back then. Well, do you know Amitabh played the matchmaker between his brother, Ajitabh, and his friend, Ramola? Yes! You heard it right! While all the Bachchans are quite familiar with the public space, there are a few who live a low-key life despite belonging to the Bachchan clan. And today, we will learn all about Jaya Bachchan's sister-in-law, Ramola Bachchan.
For the unversed, Ramola Bachchan got married to Amitabh Bachchan's brother, Ajitabh Bachchan. Ramola was Amitabh's friend first, even before he stepped into the acting world. It was Big B who was the matchmaker between Ramola and Ajitabh. When Ramola met Ajitabh, the duo bonded instantly, and their relationship evolved. Following the same, the couple fell in love and got married. As per Her Zindagi, talking about Amitabh Bachchan, Ramola once said that she and Big B had a true friendship in the 1960s before he went on to become an actor. She also revealed that Amitabh always had a yearning for films, but back then it was not that prominent. She said:
"It was pure friendship. This was in the 1960s before he had thought of joining the films. I think he had a secret yearning for films, but it was not prominent then."
Ramola Bachchan and Ajitabh Bachchan have four kids, three daughters, Nilima, Naina, Namrita, and a son, Bhim Bachchan. Naina is married to actor, Kunal Kapoor. It was at Kunal and Naina's wedding that the entire Bachchan clan was present, including Shweta Bachchan and Navya Naveli Nanda. Talking about Amitabh Bachchan's bond with his brother's kids, Ramola once shared that the four get on well with the actor.
As per Her Zindagi, Ramola, in an interview, said that her and Ajitabh's kids respect their uncle, Amitabh Bachchan, way too much, but they also have an informal relationship. She revealed that Amitabh Bachchan has the capacity to come down to his nieces and nephew's level and have fun with them in their ways. Ramola reportedly said:
"Our children get on with him very well. They know and respect him as their uncle but they also have a very informal relationship with him. He has the capacity of coming down to their level, chatting with them, having fun with them."
Ramola Bachchan received her graduation degree from Calcutta University in English Honours. Following the same, she pursued a degree in business management at Webster University, St. Louis, USA. It was in 1991, when Ramola passed Solicitors Final Qualifying Examinations at the College of Law, Lancaster Gate, London, and became a qualified lawyer from the UK. Eventually, Ramola established her multi-dimensional career.

It was in 1992, when Ramola kickstarted her career in the media. She was a television and radio presenter with the TV Asia Group. In 1995, she launched a PR firm in the UK. She has also worked with some of the leading Indian fashion designers and launched their brands in the UK. Before 2007, Ramola was based out in London, and reportedly, she has organised more than 50 events in fashion, music, arts, and film. After that, she shifted her base to New Delhi and continued shining through every aspect of her career. Over 15 years of her career, she has organised more than 250 events and she also has a record of launching several successful startups.
After returning to India from London in 2007, Ramola founded a European restaurant and bar in South Delhi, named Manre. She has hosted some of the biggest fashion events like the Runway Bridal Exhibition, Runway Rising, HouseFull Exhibition, and others. She also launched her own company, Ramola Bachchan Concepts, or RBC. This Delhi-based company looks after event managements, store organisations, and product launches.
Ramola Bachchan is also a fashion designer. In 2017, she launched First Resort, which is a resort wear brand for women. Ramola serves as a creative director of that brand. She also reportedly worked in the movie, Don as a fashion designer. She also launched a personalised home catering service, The Accidental Chef, in 2020 and, to build the base, she took a 9-month course in culinary management.
As the Bachchan clans don't get spotted often, rumours about their rift have always been rife. Well, there's nothing like that and it was clarified by Ramola herself. Jaya Bachchan attended an event to congratulate Ramola on her new collection, and the latter was touched by her gesture. Apart from that, there have been several occasions when they were spotted together, and just like their signature style, they have shut down the rift buzz.
It was back in 2022 when a report by Outlook made some shocking revelations. As per the report, it was a well-known London-based lawyer, Sarosh Zaiwalla accused Ajitabh of having an affair with his wife, Renoo, which caused the couple to split up. Sarosh Zaiwalla reportedly claimed to have worked with Ajitabh as his lawyer. Zaiwalla also allegedly accused Ajitabh of having an affair with one of his office employees. This report spread like wildfire around, which even caused Ramola and Ajitabh's separation buzz to begin. Well, when Ramola Bachchan was asked about the same, she dismissed all the claims and stated that these are all 'absolute nonsense'.
