Some projects are more than just films; they are an actor's legacy, and the props become a reminder of the magic they have created. Many actors keep the special elements from their 'It' projects as a souvenir. However, sometimes fate forces one to part from them. The same is happening with James Van Der Beek, the actor who collected his film props like trophies of the art he had created, now has to auction them. The reason? A deadly disease, cancer.
Fans have been following James Van Der Beek's battle with cancer since he announced it in November 2024. The former teen heartthrob, who has been struggling with health issues, has now made some heartbreaking but necessary decisions related to his medical finances. According to reports, James is parting with rare memorabilia to help cover treatment costs.

The auction has been announced following the news of his Stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis last November 2024. James Van Der Beek is teaming up with Propstore to auction off props and wardrobe from his time on The WB's Dawson's Creek and his 1999 movie, Varsity Blues, with all proceeds going toward his medical expenses. Talking about the same, he told PEOPLE:
"I've been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them. And with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it's clear that the time is now."

In the same conversation, James Van Der Beek revealed that while he has some nostalgia tugging at him as he parts with the much-prized possessions, he is glad he gets to do so through Propstore. For the unversed, the props will go live as a part of its Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction from December 5 to December 7, 2025. The actor was quoted as saying:
"While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore's auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years."

Propstore will be auctioning off his outfit from the 1998 Dawson's Creek pilot, which is expected to fetch nearly USD 4,000, as well as the necklace 'Dawson' (James Van Der Beek) gave 'Joey' (Katie Holmes) for prom, estimated at USD 26,400 to USD 52,800. The auction also includes his Varsity Blues character's 'West Canaan Coyotes' hat and a pair of cleats worn for the football movie.

In November 2024, James Van Der Beek revealed his diagnosis in an interview with People. During the conversation, he revealed that he had been dealing with the disease for a while and had taken steps to battle the same. He had expressed his optimism regarding the fight and was quoted as saying:
