It: Welcome to Derry Episode 3 has deepened the horrors of Stephen King's universe, from easter eggs to haunting revelations, bringing back 'Pennywise' in its most iconic clown form and exploring Dick Hallorann's supernatural powers. After episode 2's misleading ending, the latest chapter ties together the origins of fear in 'Derry', Hallorann's Shining abilities, and new lore connecting Pennywise's influence to the town's violent history.

In Stephen King's lore, 'Pennywise's' clown avatar is merely a disguise used by the evil spirit to attract and manipulate children before preying on their fears.

Why couldn't 'Pennywise' leave the woods?

In a flashback, young 'General Shaw' escapes 'Pennywise's' monstrous form in the woods, only to find that it cannot cross the forest's boundary. This hints that 'Derry's' townsfolk once found a way to contain the entity within the woods, possibly weaponising it for their own ends. In the present timeline, 'General Shaw's' obsession with harnessing the evil deity's power for military gain could spell disaster, as he risks unleashing the evil that the small town has barely kept contained.
