It: Welcome to Derry is back with another episode of pure terror. The show has been making headlines ever since it premiered in October 2025, and we are only four episodes down, but the chills it has sent down our spines have already made a permanent home there. So, as Stephen King's novel once again leaves us scared and scarred for life, let's take a step back or a million.
Episode 4 of It: Welcome to Derry has brought fans back millions of years, straight to the end of the episode. Seeing IT crash to Earth in Stephen King's 1986 novel and, briefly, in 2019's It: Chapter Two, is easily one of the most entrancing moments in the story. In Episode 4 of It: Welcome To Derry, we have the dark pleasure of seeing the arrival and aftermath fleshed out at length. But the real question is: Are the fans ready for it?

When 'Rose's nephew, 'Taniel' (Joshua Odjick) gets painfully, physically probed by 'Dick Hallorann' for clues about 'IT's' whereabouts, we're taken back to the indigenous boy's childhood. He dutifully recites the legend of "the monster in the Western Wood" and "how all of this began" at his aunt's request. A young 'Taniel' reveals that Millions of years ago, before the time of people, an evil spirit was cast down from the darkest part of the night sky, bound inside a falling star.

However, when it struck the earth, it broke open, and the spirit was set free. 'Taniel', in a full storyteller mode, gives the viewers the story they weren't sure they were looking for. He shared how it roamed the woods for ages, and that the star that carried the monster was actually its cage, and that the stone it was made from still held power. He added:
"Our wisest took a shard from that star and carved a weapon to protect our people from the monster, which we named the Galloo. We kept the dagger close and stayed away from the Western Wood. As years went by, the legend of the Galloo was passed down from generation to generation. We lived in balance with the monster by staying outside of its reach and never hunting in its territory—until one day, the settlers arrived."

Things would have been fine, but then the Europeans ignored the natives' wisdom, hunted in the Galloos' territory, and became such potent prey that it was able to venture beyond the forest. The fictional tribe called the 'Shokopiwah' in Chapter Two, still unnamed on IT: Welcome to Derry but referred to in HBO's official podcast as the also-fictional 'Sqoteawapskot', decided to flee their land to survive. A girl named 'Necani' (played by Kiawentiio), daughter of war chief, 'Sesqui' (Morningstar Angeline), plans to return home and take more magic daggers.

However, when she went to retrieve them with a search party, which was promptly broken up by the Galloo, taking the shape of a zombified moose and decomposing colonists. In the girl's final moments, the monster took the form of a priest from whose chest burst a stabby, gore-streaked baby in Jesus's crown of thorns. 'Necani' avenged her mother by returning to 'It's' inner sanctum and breaking off enough star-shards to craft 13 sacred talismans which, carefully buried around the Western Wood, would contain the creature. This border, it goes without saying, goes on to encapsulate Derry.

The 'Loser Gang' brings their graveyard photos to the cops. 'Rich' gets the funniest line delivery of the episode with, "We have one where this thing looks like the monster version of Teddy, which was incredibly scary." However, the ghosts are no longer visible, and while the clown in the distance is still there, Chief Bowers & Co. think it's a statue and threateningly order the kids to butt out.
Over coffee at the 'Hanlon' home, 'Rose' tries to get intel from 'Charlotte' and fails. When she asked further about the string of disappearances, 'Rose' won't get into it directly but says it's "never a bad idea to keep the people you love close." This leaves 'Charlotte' to dig deeper and discover 'Will's' cemetery photos, and she tells her son he's only confined to school and the house till she figures out "what's going on around here."

Further in the episode, 'Will' is attacked at the lake by a scorched apparition of his father. It warns him, "You'll burn too!" and leaves the kid shaken and injured. He later spots 'Pennywise's' silhouette through his telescope, while red balloons haunt both him and 'Leroy'. 'Charlotte' is in a hustle to protect her son pursues justice for 'Hank Grogan', challenging 'Chief Bowers' and leveraging her Civil Rights connections to secure a visit. 'Grogan' reveals he was secretly with a married white woman when the theatre massacre took place, a truth that could exonerate him but would endanger them both.

One would think that this was enough chaos for a lifetime, but apparently not. 'Dick Hallorann' and his fellow 'Black' airmen claim their own recreation space, but 'Dick's' shine warns him of looming danger. 'Hanlon' pressures military leadership and witnesses 'Dick' physically interrogate 'Taniel', who cryptically directs them toward tunnels under the old well that leads back to Neibolt Street.
'Will' tries to explain to his friend that the creature feeds on fear, prompting 'Lilly' to arm the group with her mom's anxiety meds. At school, a lesson on mind-controlling parasites foreshadows horror as 'Margie's' eyes distort, bulge and bleed. In a frantic attempt to mutilate them, she injures herself with a chisel and a bandsaw. 'Lilly' restrains her, only to be found covered in blood, appearing as 'Margie's' attacker.
